Description of a new species of Adelorhagus Horn, 1890 (Coleoptera: Eucnemidae) from Honduras with a key to the species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Adelorhagus bicoloratus, new species (Coleoptera: Eucnemidae: Melasinae: Dirhagini) is described from Honduras. Dorsal, ventral and lateral habitus, along with male aedeagus are illustrated and a key is provided to distinguish the new species from that ...

Intracellular Aβ42 Sequestration by a Serine Protease Mitigates Neurotoxicity in a Drosophila Alzheimer's Disease Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Emerging evidence suggests that intraneuronal Aβ accumulation represents an early pathogenic event in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Using Drosophila AD model, this study shows that a nonsecreted serine protease Yip7 physically interacts with Aβ. This causes intraneuronal Aβ accumulation but surprisingly reduces the associated neurotoxicity, arguing that ...

The Biogenic Amine Tyramine and its Receptor (AmTyr1) in Olfactory Neuropils in the Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) Brain

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2017
This article describes the cellular sources for tyramine and the cellular targets of tyramine via the Tyramine Receptor 1 (AmTyr1) in the olfactory learning and memory neuropils of the honey bee brain.

Differential interactions of sex pheromone and plant odour in the olfactory pathway of a male moth. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Most animals rely on olfaction to find sexual partners, food or a habitat. The olfactory system faces the challenge of extracting meaningful information from a noisy odorous environment.

New genera and species of Lygaeoidea (Heteroptera: Lygaeoidea: Rhyparochromidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Afralampes capensis is described as a new genus and species in the Megalonotini. The systematic position of Serranegra Lindberg is discussed, a new species is described from South Africa and a key to species included.

Random Time‐Space Coding Metasurfaces for Spatial Control of the Temporal Statistics of Electromagnetic Fields

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A probabilistic framework based on random time‐space coding metasurfaces enables control of the spatial distribution of electromagnetic fields temporal statistics. By tailoring the marginal and joint distributions of random codes, electromagnetic fields with desired mean and variance patterns are realized, enabling simultaneous transmission and jamming.

Transformation of Olfactory Representations in the Drosophila Antennal Lobe

open access: yesScience, 2004
Molecular genetics has revealed a precise stereotypy in the projection of primary olfactory sensory neurons onto secondary neurons. A major challenge is to understand how this mapping translates into odor responses in these second-order neurons.
