A review of the tribes of Deltocephalinae (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Cicadellidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The classification of the largest subfamily of leafhoppers, Deltocephalinae, including 38 tribes, 923 genera, and 6683 valid species, is reviewed and revised.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Clinical and microbiological profile of patients with fungal keratitis demonstrating unusual yeast-like structures in potassium hydroxide with calcofluor white preparation of corneal scraping

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection
Background To report a case series of microbial keratitis showing atypical yeast-like structures in direct microscopy which were culture-negative but subsequently identified as yeast cells by PCR and DNA sequencing. Main text This is a retrospective, non-

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Descriptions of Nymphal Instars of \u3ci\u3eAbedus Breviceps\u3c/i\u3e (Hemiptera: Belostomatidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The 1st-5th instars of Abedus breviceps Still, collected from a Texas population, are described and illustrated. They can be separated most easily by overall body length and width, and by the length of the mesonotal wing ...

75 MHz Ultrasound Biomicroscopy of Anterior Segment of Eye [PDF]

open access: yesUltrasonic Imaging, 2006
Very high frequency ultrasound (35–50 MHz) has had a significant impact upon clinical imaging of the anterior segment of the eye, offering an axial resolution as small as 30 μm. Higher frequencies, while potentially offering even finer resolution, are more affected by absorption in ocular tissues and even in the fluid coupling medium.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Kainic acid-induced eye enlargement in chickens: differential effects on anterior and posterior segments [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Intravitreal injections of kainic acid were used to examine the significance of normal retinal activity for eye growth in chickens, this acid being chosen because of its known, selective neurotoxic effects on cells in the chicken retina.
