Electroacupuncture and category IV LASER for treating suprascapular neuropathy in a two‐year‐old Arabian filly

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary A 2‐year‐old Arabian filly presented with acute onset grade 4/5 (AAEP) right forelimb lameness and hindlimb ataxia following a collision with another horse and subsequent fall. The right forelimb lameness was associated with marked scapulohumeral joint instability.

Association Between Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension and Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy: A Case Series

open access: yes, 2022
Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) and non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) are among the most common conditions seen in Neuro-ophthalmic practice.

When to consider an inborn error of immunity: clues for physicians

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract The term inborn errors of immunity (IEIs) refers to the rapidly expanding group of genetic disorders causing dysregulation of the immune system. With improved genetic testing in recent years, the number of defined IEIs and their range of phenotypic presentations has grown vastly, with more than 550 IEIs now described.

Non-Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy Following Pharmacologic Dilation in the Eye Clinic

open access: yes, 2022
Topical tropicamide 1% and phenylephrine 2.5% are routinely used for pharmacologic dilation. We present two patients who developed worsening vision from non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) immediately after pharmacologic ...

Improved prognosis prediction of all‐cause mortality and cardiovascular events by combined assessment of both ankle‐brachial index and brachial‐ankle pulse wave velocity in individuals with diabetes: The Kyushu prevention study for atherosclerosis, a prospective, multicenter survey

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
A novel algorithm combining ABI and baPWV was developed to predict mortality and CVD risk in individuals with diabetes. This algorithm improved the accuracy of mortality and CVD risk assessment and was independent from the Framingham Risk Score. ABSTRACT Aims/Introduction People with diabetes exhibit early‐stage cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy Update

open access: yes, 1999
Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION) is the most common cause of acute optic nerve disease in the elderly. Often it can result in severe visual loss.

An eye on long‐duration spaceflight: Controversies, countermeasures and challenges

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Space flight‐associated neuroocular syndrome (SANS) is a consequence of long‐duration space flight and is detected in two‐thirds of astronauts. In‐flight, this can cause a change in the refraction of the eyes, requiring graded hypermetropic ‘superfocus adjustable’ glasses, optic nerve head oedema and choroidal folds.

Nostoc commune Extract Attenuates Oxidative Stress and Neuroinflammation in Ischemic Optic Neuropathy Through PI3K/AKT/mTOR Signaling

open access: yesAntioxidants
Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) is a leading cause of sudden vision loss, yet no effective therapy exists to preserve retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) after ischemic injury.

Carotid artery dissection linked to intermittent apnoeic swimming: A case–control study

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Internal carotid artery (ICA) dissection is a rare and potentially devastating cause of cerebral ischaemia, initiated by an intimal tear or rupture of the vasa vasorum, that can lead to an intraluminal thrombus, vascular stenosis, occlusion, or dissecting aneurysm formation.

Prediabetic cardiomyopathy is attenuated by hypothalamic PVN oxytocin neuron activation

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend A long‐term high‐fat, high‐fructose diet induces prediabetes with insulin resistance, hyperinsulinaemia, elevated triglycerides and metabolic‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in male rats. Animals developed prediabetic cardiomyopathy characterized by diastolic dysfunction, interstitial fibrosis and tachycardia ...
