Dysphagia and Mortality Risk in Individuals With Primary Progressive Apraxia of Speech

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Individuals with primary progressive apraxia of speech (PPAOS) often develop parkinsonism and dysphagia. To evaluate the clinical correlates and impact of dysphagia in this population, we compared enrollment visit data between individuals with (n = 12) versus individuals without (n = 44) dysphagia symptoms.

Innovative technique for correction of open bite - A case report

open access: yesContemporary Clinical Dentistry, 2023
Anterior open bite is defined as a condition in which upper incisor crowns fail to overlap the incisal third of the lower incisor crowns when the mandible is brought into full occlusion.

Reliability-output Decoding of Tail-biting Convolutional Codes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present extensions to Raghavan and Baum's reliability-output Viterbi algorithm (ROVA) to accommodate tail-biting convolutional codes. These tail-biting reliability-output algorithms compute the exact word-error probability of the decoded codeword after first calculating the posterior probability of the decoded tail-biting codeword's starting state ...

Assessment of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury Risk Based on Human Key Points Detection Algorithm [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This paper aims to detect the potential injury risk of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) by proposing an ACL potential injury risk assessment algorithm based on key points of the human body detected using computer vision technology. To obtain the key points data of the human body in each frame, OpenPose, an open source computer vision algorithm, was

Long-term stability of anterior open bite closure corrected by surgical-orthodontic treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In adults, superior repositioning of posterior maxilla with or without mandibular surgery has become the treatment method of choice to close anterior open bite.

Speech Disorder in Anterior Open Bite (AOB): Systematic Review: Speech Disorder pada Anterior Open Bite (AOB): Systematic Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
There have been numerous researches showing that articulation disorders and malocclusion are linked. The most prevalent malocclusion in speech or articulation disorders is anterior open bite (AOB).

A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorous: Friend or Foe?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Researchers investigate black phosphorous (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.

Explainable machine learning identifies multi-omics signatures of muscle response to spaceflight in mice [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The adverse effects of microgravity exposure on mammalian physiology during spaceflight necessitate a deep understanding of the underlying mechanisms to develop effective countermeasures. One such concern is muscle atrophy, which is partly attributed to the dysregulation of calcium levels due to abnormalities in SERCA pump functioning.
