Hypopituitarism as the presenting feature of bronchogenic carcinoma with metastases to the pituitary gland

open access: yesIndian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2013
Tumours metastasizing to the pituitary gland are uncommon. Symptomatic patients with pituitary metastases can present with diabetes insipidus, headache, visual field defects and/or anterior pituitary hormonal dysfunction.

Migrasomes in Ischemic Stroke: Molecular Landscape and Pathophysiological Impact

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multi‐omics profiling of stroke patients exposes systemic molecular fingerprints of immune activation, oxidative stress and metabolic collapse. Complement and coagulation cascade, and cholesterol metabolism emerge as shared functional hallmarks of plasma migrasomes in stroke patients and migrasomes isolated from experimental stroke mice.

Development of the anterior pituitary: diverse lineages of the stem/progenitor cells

open access: yesEndocrine Journal
The pituitary gland is endocrine tissue composed of two distinct parts with different origins: the adenohypophysis (adenohypophyseal placode origin) and the neurohypophysis (neuroectoderm origin). Differentiation of endocrine cells in the pituitary gland

Educational Impact of Artificial Intelligence‐Navigation Surgery on Anatomical Landmark Recognition in Medical Students

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study evaluated the educational impact of artificial intelligence (AI)‐navigation surgery that provides real‐time anatomical landmark recognition during laparoscopic cholecystectomy for medical students. Thirty students were randomized into surgeon‐guided, self‐learning, and AI‐learning groups, and their performance was assessed using Dice ...

Multimorbidity and animal models

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Multimorbidity, defined as the coexistence of ≥2 chronic conditions, is associated with aging, genetics, and environmental factors. Animal models in multimorbidity research span three tiers: simple organisms for initial screening → rodents for mechanistic analysis → large mammals for clinical prediction.

Magnocellular Vasopressin and the Mechanism of “Glucocorticoid Escape”

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2019
It is now widely accepted that magnocellular vasopressinergic neurons in the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei participate in the control of adrenocorticotropin secretion by the anterior pituitary gland.

Bioimaging of sense organs and the central nervous system in extant fishes and reptiles in situ: A review

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Bioimaging of the sense organs and brain of fishes and reptiles. Left panel: 3D reconstruction of the head and brain of the deep‐sea viperfish Chauliodus sloani following diceCT. Right panel: A 3D reconstruction of a 70‐day‐old embryo head of the bearded dragon Pogona vitticeps following diceCT, showing the position of the segmented brain within the ...

Segmental MRI pituitary and hypothalamus volumes post Fontan: An analysis of the Australian and New Zealand Fontan registry

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cardiology Congenital Heart Disease
Objective: Short stature, central hypothyroidism and infertility are common in those with a Fontan circulation. Given that the Fontan circulation often results in hepatic portal venous congestion, we hypothesize that the hypothalamic-pituitary portal ...
