Assessing the sterility and quality of gamma‐irradiated pepper weevils, Anthonomus eugenii (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), toward the development of the sterile insect technique

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 4, Page 1692-1701, April 2024.
Pepper weevil were treated with gamma radiation at the pupal stage to investigate its impact on reproduction and quality. Male and female pepper weevils irradiated with 110 Gy as late‐stage pupae were effectively sterilized and also had decreased fecundity, longevity and spontaneous flight activity.

Fungal seed treatments of cotton affect boll weevil development

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 3, Page 1566-1576, March 2024.
Fewer boll weevil larvae hatched and fewer adults emerged from fungal‐treated plants. In addition, the developmental time from oviposition to adult emergence was delayed in the fungal‐treated plants. Abstract BACKGROUND Nonpathogenic fungi associated with plants can enhance plant defenses against stress factors, including herbivory. This study assessed
