Toward Larger Cyclo-9,10-Anthryleneparaphenylenes. [PDF]
ChemistryDuring a macrocyclization with a dihydroanthracene diol as corner unit, larger oligomers than the trimer and tetramer were formed and isolated up to the nonamer. Their three‐dimensional structures were studied by X‐ray diffraction. The most abundant macrocycles were rearomatized to the corresponding CPP derivatives.

A Chiral Saddle‐Shaped Nanographene With Two Heptagon‐Embedded [4]Helicenes
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.We present a novel synthetic strategy toward a chiral saddle‐shaped nanographene (cSNG) via a two‐step oxidation of a prochiral anthracene precursor. The Scholl‐type oxidation first yields a key intermediate with sp3‐defect heptagons, and subsequent oxidative dehydrogenation affords fully conjugated cSNG.

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.The peri‐benzo[a]fluoranthenethioindigo (PBFT) photoswitch enables direct excitation with near‐infrared light up to 900 nm wavelengths. It delivers a high‐performance property profile including high‐contrast color changes between bright green and deep blue.

, 2003 Bromine-lithium exchange using tert-butyllithium at -78 °C initiates a cascade process whereby either xanthone derivatives or pentacyclic 13-azadibenzo[a,de]anthracenes are produced in high yields.
