Biological agents as weapons 2: anthrax and plague
Medical Journal of Australia, 2002Although most naturally occurring infections with anthrax and plague are cutaneous, both organisms are most likely to be deliberately disseminated in aerosolised form, resulting in severe pulmonary illness. Mortality from both would be high and rapid in the absence of early and effective treatment, making swift and effective liaison between alert ...

Catalytically inactive anthrax toxin(s) are potential prophylactic agents
Vaccine, 2007The anthrax exotoxin, which is a key mediator of anthrax related pathogenesis, is composed of two separate toxins formed by pairwise combinations of three proteins that are encoded on the pXO1 plasmid of Bacillus anthracis. Lethal toxin is composed of protective antigen (PA) combined with lethal factor (LF) while edema toxin is composed of PA and edema

Anthrax Toxin: Causative Agent in the Death of Rhesus Monkeys
Science, 1962Anthrax toxin was present in the blood obtained from rhesus monkeys at the terminal stage of anthrax and was also present in increasing amounts in the lymph as death approached. When sterile toxin produced in vitro was injected in sufficient amounts, monkeys died unless they were injected with specific antiserum.

Pulmonary Disease from Biological Agents: Anthrax, Plague, Q Fever, and Tularemia
Critical Care Clinics, 2005Anthrax, plague, Q fever, and tularemia are all potential inhalational bioterrorism agents. The pulmonary manifestations of these agents can be readily confused with each other as well as other more common diseases such as influenza and atypical pneumonia.
