Airport traffic simulator for anti-icing runway winter products: Chemical performance by mechanical activation

open access: yesResults in Engineering
The chemicals products used in airports are essential to keep air traffic flowing safely and smoothly during winter time. However, there is limited reliable information available regarding both their performance and optimal use. It is therefore essential

Study on the Anti-Frosting and Droplet Contact Characteristics of Fluorine-Based Self-Assembled Superhydrophobic Coating [PDF]

open access: yesCailiao Baohu
In order to study the effect of the cold surface on the anti-frosting performance of the superhydrophobic coating and the impact contact behavior of droplets, a fluorine-based self-assembled superhydrophobic coating was sprayed on the surface of carbon ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transient temperature field prediction on anti-icing wing surface based on convolutional temporal networks

open access: yesKongqi donglixue xuebao
Electric heating for anti-icing is a crucial technique to prevent icing on aircraft wings. Accurate prediction of transient temperature fields on the anti-icing surface of a wing is essential for optimizing the design of electric heating systems.

Neural-Network-Based Model-Free Calibration Method for Stereo Fisheye Camera

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
The fisheye camera has a field of view (FOV) of over 180°, which has advantages in the fields of medicine and precision measurement. Ordinary pinhole models have difficulty in fitting the severe barrel distortion of the fisheye camera.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Development of a small and transportable de-icing/anti-icing drone-mounted system. Part 2: Prototype testing and proof of concept

open access: yesDrone Systems and Applications, 2022
During winter, aircraft de-icing and anti-icing is a significant part of the operations at large airports. These mandatory operations ensure that the aircraft is clean of any contaminations during take-off.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Advancing Insights into Runway De-Icing: Combining Infrared Thermography and Raman Spectroscopy to Assess Ice Melt

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The “bare runway” principle aims to ensure passenger and employee safety by making runways more usable during winter conditions, allowing for easier removal of contaminants like snow and ice.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
