Ultra-Low-Loss Hollow-Core Anti-Resonant Fiber Combining Double-Tube Nesting and a Single-Layer Anti-Resonant Wall

open access: yesPhotonics
This study innovatively presents a hollow-core anti-resonant fiber integrating double-tube nesting and a single-layer anti-resonant wall. Featuring an exclusive two-layer cladding configuration along with an outer cladding circular ring, it differs significantly from traditional fibers.

Broadband enhanced transmission through the stacked metallic multi-layers perforated with coaxial annular apertures

open access: yes, 2011
This paper theoretically and experimentally presents a first report on broadband enhanced transmission through stacked metallic multi-layers perforated with coaxial annular apertures (CAAs).

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Reducing Thermal Noise in Future Gravitational Wave Detectors by employing Khalili Etalons

open access: yes, 2011
Reduction of thermal noise in dielectric mirror coatings is a key issue for the sensitivity improvement in second and third generation interferometric gravitational wave detectors. Replacing an end mirror of the interferometer by an anti-resonant cavity (

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Resonance magneto-resistance in double barrier structure with spin-valve

open access: yes, 2004
The conductance and tunnel magneto-resistance (TMR) of the double barrier magnetic tunnel junction with spin-valve sandwich (F/P/F) inserted between two insulating barrier, are theoretically investigated. It is shown, that resonant tunnelling, due to the

Simulations of solar cell absorption enhancement using resonant modes of a nanosphere array [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We propose an approach for enhancing the absorption of thin-film amorphous silicon solar cells using periodic arrangements of resonant dielectric nanospheres deposited as a continuous film on top of a thin planar cell.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Investigating the Liquid State of Carbon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Carbon materials have a many contemporary applications and new carbon allotropes are being discovered. However, while graphite and diamond are well understood, very little is known about the liquid state of carbon due to the high temperatures (above 5 ...

Electromagnetic forces in photonic crystals

open access: yes, 1998
We develop a general methodology for numerical computations of electromagnetic (EM) fields and forces in matter, based on solving the macroscopic Maxwell's equations in real space and adopting the Maxwell Stress Tensor formalism.
