The antibacterial properties of isothiocyanates

open access: yesMicrobiology, 2015
Isothiocyanates (ITCs) are natural plant products generated by the enzymic hydrolysis of glucosinolates found in Brassicaceae vegetables. These natural sulfur compounds and their dithiocarbamate conjugates have been previously evaluated for their anti-cancerous properties.

Photocatalytic Inactivation of Co-Culture of E. coli and S. epidermidis Using APTES-Modified TiO2

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
The presented work shows the antibacterial activity of TiO2 photocatalysts modified by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES). The APTES-functionalized TiO2 samples were obtained by the solvothermal process followed by calcination.

Antibacterial Properties of Retail Sponges

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 1989
Seven different brands of cellulose sponges and one polyurethane variety were evaluated for inhibitory properties on twelve strains of gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Sponges were cut in 13 mm or 17 mm discs, autoclaved and aseptically placed on inoculated Tryptic Soy agar plates.

Investigating the Antibacterial Properties of Prospective Scabicides

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
Scabies is a dermatological disease found worldwide. Mainly in tropical regions, it is also the cause of significant morbidity and mortality due to its association with potentially severe secondary bacterial infections. Current treatment strategies for scabies do not consider the role of opportunistic bacteria, and here we investigate whether current ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...
