ANTIFOULING UV-CURED COATINGS

2014
Biofouling is relevant in a wide range of applications as biomedical implants or device, food packaging and storage, biosensor, water purification system, marine and industrial equipment. In all these applications is necessary to protect the surface by the accumulation of protein, bacteria, marine organism, etc...[1,2] Microscopic and nanoscopic ...

Redefining Antifouling Coating Technology—Part 2

Materials Performance, 2011
After tin-based technology was abandoned in 2001, economic and environmental factors have necessitated higher energy efficiency in marine transportation, much of which depends on the performance of antifouling coatings. Part 1 of this article (April 2011 MP) introduced the subject; Part 2 covers topcoating technologies and achieved fuel savings; and ...

Antifouling Coatings in Submarine Structures

2011
It's well known that metals are used in underwater structures (i.e. the hulls of ships or different types of boats, offshore marine platforms, the probes of tools for the detection of oceanographic data) are subject to quick deterioration due both to chemical reaction of the inorganic salts contained in sea water and to biochemical action caused by ...

Frictional Resistance of Antifouling Coating Systems

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 2004
An experimental study has been made to compare the frictional resistance of several ship hull coatings in the unfouled, fouled, and cleaned conditions. Hydrodynamic tests were completed in a towing tank using a flat plate test fixture towed at a Reynolds number ReL range of 2.8×106-5.5×106 based on the plate length and towing velocity.

Novel Antifouling Coatings: A Multiconceptual Approach

2008
The development of novel antifouling and foul release coatings must be considered in the context of business, government, and academic research. Existing antifouling technology is based upon the use of broad-spectrum biocides. Foul release technology is partially developed, has incompletely understood mechanisms and unknown long term fates and effects.
