Antifouling Coatings for Offshore Structures
CORROSION 2005, 2005Abstract Antifoulings have conventionally been used on mobile marine vessels to reduce build up of hull roughness due to the settlement of various types of biofouling, the consequence of which can be significant increase in fuel bills and reduction in speed. This is obviously not the case on static offshore structures such

Antifouling coatings for electrochemical sensors
Доклады Российской академии наук. Химия, науки о материалахElectrochemical sensors are extremely promising for the analysis of a number of organic and inorganic compounds both in biological fluids and natural waters during environmental monitoring due to easing operation, ease of miniaturization, low cost, low limits of analyte determination and the possibility of modifying electrodes with a wide range of ...

Bioactive materials for antifouling coatings
Progress in Organic Coatings, 1992Abstract Marine fouling is the result of the settling and subsequent growth of marine organisms on surfaces immersed in seawater. The most successful principle in use today for the protection of ship's hulls against this unwanted growth is the release of bioactive materials from antifouling coatings.

Bioinspired Catecholic Copolymers for Antifouling Surface Coatings
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2013We report here a synthetic approach to prepare poly(methyl methacrylate)-polydopamine diblock (PMMA-PDA) and triblock (PDA-PMMA-PDA) copolymers combining mussel-inspired catecholic oxidative chemistry and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). These copolymers display very good solubility in a range of organic solvents and also a broad band photo

Seawater-Induced Healable Underwater Superoleophobic Antifouling Coatings
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2018Creating an artificial surface, mimicking a live fish scale that repels oil underwater and with self-healing properties, would be significant for the development of nontoxic marine antifouling coatings. Here, we report a seawater-induced strategy to create in situ an underwater superoleophobic surface, starting from the coatings of a self-polishing ...

Patterning and Biofunctionalization of Antifouling Hyperbranched Polyglycerol Coatings
Biomacromolecules, 2014We demonstrate the patterned biofunctionalization of antifouling hyperbranched polyglycerol (HPG) coatings on silicon and glass substrates. The ultralow fouling HPG coatings afforded straightforward chemical handles for rapid bioconjugation of amine containing biomolecular species.

Redefining Antifouling Coating Technology—Part 2
Materials Performance, 2011After tin-based technology was abandoned in 2001, economic and environmental factors have necessitated higher energy efficiency in marine transportation, much of which depends on the performance of antifouling coatings. Part 1 of this article (April 2011 MP) introduced the subject; Part 2 covers topcoating technologies and achieved fuel savings; and ...

Antifouling Coatings in Submarine Structures
2011It's well known that metals are used in underwater structures (i.e. the hulls of ships or different types of boats, offshore marine platforms, the probes of tools for the detection of oceanographic data) are subject to quick deterioration due both to chemical reaction of the inorganic salts contained in sea water and to biochemical action caused by ...
