Co‐cultivation and Medium Optimization: A Strategy for Discovering Fungal‐derived Protease Inhibitors

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The fungi Fusarium guttiforme and Phytophthora palmivora were cultivated in four different media (Potato Dextrose Agar, Czapek, rice, and ISP2) and co‐cultured to stimulate fungal interactions and enhance secondary metabolite production. Promising extracts were fractionated, yielding compounds such as the iron complex of fusaric acid (1 ...

Antifungal and Antiparasitic Activities of Lactoferrin

Anti-Infective Agents in Medicinal Chemistry, 2009
The first function attributed to lactoferrin, an iron-binding protein belonging to the non-immune natural de- fences, was antimicrobial activity related to its capability of sequestering iron. Many other antimicrobial and antiviral functions have been ascribed to lactoferrin.

The antifungal activity of ketoconazole

The American Journal of Medicine, 1983
The antifungal properties of ketoconazole were investigated both in vitro and in vivo. The antifungal potency of ketoconazole in vitro was studied in Sabouraud's broth for 715 fungal strains belonging to 85 species and several strains were tested in other media, including Eagle's minimal essential medium.

The Antifungal Activity of Bacillomycin S

Mycologia, 1977
Different strains of the soil bacterium Bacillus subtilis (Ehrenberg) Cohn produce a variety of antifungal polypeptides (4). Recently a proteinaceous antifungal antibiotic, bacillomycin S, was isolated and purified from culture filtrates of B. subtilis (3).
