Targeting of T/Tn antigens with a plant lectin to kill human leukemia cells by photochemotherapy.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Photochemotherapy is used both for solid tumors and in extracorporeal treatment of various hematologic disorders. Nevertheless, its development in oncology remains limited, because of the low selectivity of photosensitizers (PS) towards human tumor cells.

Plant-derived EpCAM antigen induces protective anti-cancer response

open access: yesCancer Immunology, Immunotherapy, 2007
Immunotherapy holds great promise for treatment of infectious and malignant diseases and might help to prevent the occurrence and recurrence of cancer. We produced a plant-derived tumor-associated colorectal cancer antigen EpCAM (pGA733) at high yields using two modern plant expression systems.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Production and characterization of nervous necrosis virus vaccine antigens in wild type and CRISPR/Cas9 genome edited Nicotiana benthamiana and edible crop lettuce Lactuca sativa

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
Aquaculture constitutes an important source of protein, essential omega-3 fatty acids and bioavailable micronutrients for humans. The increasing demand for aquatic food products has resulted in more intensive farming practices leading to negative impacts

Selective cytotoxicity of a novel immunotoxin based on pulchellin A chain for cells expressing HIV envelope

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Immunotoxins (ITs), which consist of antibodies conjugated to toxins, have been proposed as a treatment for cancer and chronic infections. To develop and improve the ITs, different toxins such as ricin, have been used, aiming for higher efficacy against ...

Garden-variety vaccines: antigens derived from transgenic plants

open access: yesExpert Review of Vaccines, 2004
The discovery of new vaccines can result from deletion of virulence determinants from a specific pathogen or from identification of target antigens that stimulate a protective immune response. Vaccine development will become less empirical as applications of genomics, proteomics and reverse vaccinology are exploited, and new protective antigens will ...

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Functional characterization of infiltrating T lymphocytes in human hepatic allografts [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
We have employed recently developed techniques in T-cell culturing to study the nature and function of infiltrating hepatic allograft T cells. Using the rationale that intragraft T cells are activated during cell mediated damage to the allograft, we were
