Nephroprotection by Antihypertensive Agents
Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1994Arterial hypertension is one of the few factors confirmed to accelerate the development of renal failure. Conversely, several studies have documented that systematic reduction of the blood pressure slows the progression of renal failure. It is postulated that 24-h reduction of the blood pressure should be achieved, best controlled by ambulatory blood ...

Nitrendipine as an antihypertensive agent
European Heart Journal, 1987A double-blind, stratified and randomized multicentre trial was carried out to compare the antihypertensive efficacy of nitrendipine with that of propranolol. The dose of nitrendipine was 5-20 mg b.d., and of propranolol, 40-120 mg b.d. With nitrendipine (N = 137), systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) fell from 156 +/- 1 to ...

Ouabain Antagonists as Antihypertensive Agents
Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2005The evidence that high levels of endogenous ouabain (EO), a closely related isomer of ouabain, are implicated in human hypertension and cardiac hypertrophy and failure stimulated the pharmacological research for developing novel anti-hypertensive agents active as ouabain antagonists.

L-Arginine as an Antihypertensive Agent
Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1992L-Arginine, the precursor of endothelium-derived relaxing factor (EDRF)/nitric oxide (NO), was administered intravenously in five patients with essential hypertension, one with renovascular hypertension, one with primary aldosteronism, and one with Cushing's syndrome. During the administration, the mean arterial pressure decreased concomitantly with an

Antihypertensive Agents in the Dialysis Patient
Current Hypertension Reports, 2019Hypertension and antihypertensive drug utilization are remarkably prevalent in ESRD patients. Management of blood pressure elevation in this population is complicated by many factors, including a multidimensional etiology, challenges in obtaining accurate and appropriately timed blood pressure measurements, highly specific drug dosing requirements, and

Quinazolinylformamidines and Quinazolinediylbisformamidines as Antihypertensive Agents
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1978Eleven quinazolinylformamidines and quinazolinediylbisformamidines were synthesized and investigated for antihypertensive activity in spontaneous hypertensive rats. Several compounds showed moderate antihypertensive activity at 100 mg/kg po. The same compounds were not hypotensive in the normotensive dog.

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, 1981
Hypertension is a disease more common to advanced societies, possibly due to diet and life style. It is a disease that can be readily controlled, and active efforts to decrease blood pressure correlate with decreased incidence of cardiovascular disease.

New Antihypertensive Agents: Benefit of Treatment
Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1992Large-scale end-point trials have demonstrated that antihypertensive treatment reverses the risk of stroke attributable to high blood pressure and probably reduces the incidence of myocardial infarction. Despite this major achievement in therapeutics, substantial goals still need to be achieved.

A 1996 update on antihypertensive agents
Current Opinion in Cardiology, 1996Seven new classes of antihypertensive agents that are currently under development are outlined. Clinical studies of neutral endopeptidase inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers are described. Experimental studies are described involving endothelin inhibitors, and clinical and experimental studies of a new multiple action antihypertensive agent,
