Divergent Evolution and Local Establishment of Multidrug‐Resistant Shigella sonnei in China

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
• Evolutionary history and local establishment of Chinese Shigella sonnei are unclear. • Chinese S. sonnei developed into four clades and ONPG‐negative variants. • The antimicrobial resistance phenotype of Clade I was due to an IncB/O/K/Z plasmid. • Antimicrobial resistance of Clade II was due to IncFII and IncB/O/K/Z plasmids.

Enhancement of Antimicrobial Activity of Truncated Cecropin B Peptides With the Substitution of Tryptophan Residues

open access: yesPeptide Science, Volume 118, Issue 1, January 2026.
Tryptophan (Trp) substitutions in short antimicrobial peptides can enhance antibacterial effects. The location of Trp residues in the peptide backbone is more important in determining biological activity against Gram‐negative bacteria compared with the number of Trps incorporated.

Promoting Sustainability in an Aging City: Drivers of Proper Pharmaceuticals Disposal

open access: yesSustainable Development, Volume 34, Issue S1, Page 427-438, January 2026.
ABSTRACT In a demographic context marked by a rapid increase in the older adult population, pharmaceutical residues represent an increasing threat to sustainability. Promoting the proper disposal of this waste by households is fundamental in attaining the SDGs, particularly SDG 8. This paper assesses the determinants influencing household participation

A New Class of Benzo[b]Thiophene‐1,3,4‐Oxadizole Bearing 1,2,4‐Oxadiazoles as Potent Antimicrobial Targets: Synthesis, Biological Evaluation, Docking, DFT and ADMET Studies

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 3, 22 January 2026.
Benzo[b]thiophene‐1,3,4‐oxadizole and 1,2,4‐oxadiazole hybrids 9a–9l were tested against both antibacterial and anticancer, revealing interesting structure‐activity relationships. density functional theory calculations (DFTs) at the B3LYP/6–311++G (d,p).
