The prophylactic use of antimicrobials in surgery

Current Problems in Surgery, 1983
During the period August 1976 to June 1982, there were 98 reports of antimicrobial prophylaxis in human surgery that were judged unevaluable. Antimicrobial use and bacterial resistance

Current Opinion in Microbiology, 2000
The current epidemic of bacterial resistance is attributed, in part, to the overuse of antibiotics. Recent studies have documented increases in resistance with over-use of particular antibiotics and improvements in susceptibility when antibiotic use is controlled. Antimicrobial therapy: principles of use

Medicine, 2001
Abstract Antibiotics are unique among therapeutic agents. While their use is directed at treating or preventing microbial disease, their efficacy is continuously threatened by drug resistance.
