HDL function and composition in atherothrombotic cardiovascular disease with very high HDL‐C

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, EarlyView.
We investigated 49 individuals (mean age: 62 ± 2 years, 83% female) with very high HDL‐C (>80 mg/dL), including 23 with ASCVD. Despite matched HDL‐C levels, functional and compositional HDL features differed between groups. CEC differences became evident only after tertile stratification, with ASCVD participants overrepresented in the lowest tertile ...

TGFβ enhances platelet–breast‐cancer‐cell interaction and promotes platelet aggregation

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
TGFβ stimulation promotes EMT in MCF7 cells, increasing their ability to bind, activate, and aggregate PLT. This effect involves the upregulation of adhesion molecules Integrin‐αv and Galectin‐3. Inhibiting Integrin‐αv or Galectin‐3, through Cilengitide and GB1103, reduces PLT adhesion to MCF7 and PLT aggregation, suggesting a mechanism linking TGFβ ...

Carotid Intima‐Media Thickness as a Marker of Subclinical Atherosclerosis in Adolescents With Severe Haemophilia

open access: yesHaemophilia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The clinical focus of haemophilia has expanded beyond bleeding outcomes to encompass long‐term comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, it remains unclear when vascular changes begin in this population. Carotid intima‐media thickness (cIMT), a validated, non‐invasive marker of subclinical atherosclerosis, may ...

Migraine and patent foramen ovale: correlation, coexistence, dependence. A narrative review

open access: yesHeadache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, EarlyView.
Plain Language Summary This review looked at what scientists know about the connection between migraine and a small heart opening called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). It showed that people with migraine, especially with aura, often have PFO, but it is not certain whether closing this heart opening helps prevent strokes in these patients.
