Antisense expression increases gene expression variability and locus interdependency

open access: yesMolecular Systems Biology, 2011
Genome‐wide transcription profiling has revealed extensive expression of non‐coding RNAs antisense to genes, yet their functions, if any, remain to be understood.

Antisense transcription-dependent chromatin signature modulates sense transcription and transcript dynamics

open access: yes, 2017
Antisense transcription is widespread in genomes. Despite large differences in gene size and architecture, we find that yeast and human genes share a unique, antisense transcription-associated chromatin signature.

QRICH1 Disrupts Endoplasmic Reticulum Homeostasis and Amplifies NF‐κB Signaling in Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells to Exacerbate Diabetic Periodontitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
QRICH1 has been established as a key factor contributing to impaired osteogenic potential and accelerated apoptosis of PDLSCs in diabetic periodontitis. QRICH1 not only significantly enhances UPR‐associated apoptotic signaling but also amplifies NF‐κB‐mediated inflammatory responses. Its inhibition restores osteogenic capacity and reduces alveolar bone

Widespread antisense transcription of Populus genome under drought

open access: yes, 2018
Antisense transcription is widespread in many genomes and plays important regulatory roles in gene expression. The objective of our study was to investigate the extent and functional relevance of antisense transcription in forest trees.

Antisense Transcription Controls Cell Fate in Saccharomyces cerevisiae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
SummaryEntry into meiosis is a key developmental decision. We show here that meiotic entry in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is controlled by antisense-mediated regulation of IME4, a gene required for initiating meiosis.

Identifying a Csmd3+ Microglial Subpopulation that Drives Cold‐to‐Hot Transition and Immune‐Cure in Glioblastoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study establishes an immune‐cure (ICu) mouse model based on a TMEMed G422TN‐GBM system that faithfully recapitulates human TMEMed GBM. scRNA‐seq analysis reveals a Csmd3+ microglial subset with innate immune memory (IIM) potential that potently suppresses GBM growth, drives a TME cold‐to‐hot transition, and induces 100% ICu in long‐term survival ...

Widespread Antisense Transcription in Escherichia coli

open access: yesmBio, 2010
The vast majority of annotated transcripts in bacteria are mRNAs. Here we identify ~1,000 antisense transcripts in the model bacterium Escherichia coli. We propose that these transcripts are generated by promiscuous transcription initiation within genes ...

The role of antisense transcription on regulation of gene expression

open access: yes, 2018
Tese de mestrado Bioinformática e Biologia Computacional, Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Ciências, 2018Uma explosão no número de transcritos que não codificam para proteínas tem sido registada nos últimos anos, muito justificada pela utilização de ...

Concerted Action of Targeted Nucleic Acid Therapeutics as Flexible, Precision and Personalized Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Combinations of small activating RNAs and small interfering RNAs were developed as personalized precision therapies that simultaneously activate tumor suppressors and silence oncogenes according to the molecular signatures of patient tumors. This combination strategy demonstrated superior anticancer efficacy, highlighting the promise of precision ...

Expression analysis of the long non-coding RNA antisense to Uchl1 (AS Uchl1) during dopaminergic cells’ differentiation in vitro and in neurochemical models of Parkinson’s disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2015
Antisense (AS) transcripts are RNA molecules that are transcribed from the opposite strand to sense (S) genes forming S/AS pairs. The most prominent configuration is when a lncRNA is antisense to a protein coding gene.
