Antithrombin III and Atherosclerosis
1984The mechanisms leading to the initiation of atherosclerosis are very complex. Since Duguid’s modification of Rokitansky’s theory, atherosclerosis has been related to thrombogenesis. Several investigators proposed the clumping of platelets to play a crucial role in the initiation of atheroma formation.

Biological Antithrombin III Levels
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1978To the Editor.— The MEDICAL NEWS article "Automated Test Measures Functional Antithrombin, Coagulation Enzymes" (report of Jayed Fareed, PhD, and Harry L. Mesmore, MD) confirms my observations 1 and those of others 2,3 that there is poor correlation between immunological (total) and functional antithrombin III levels in disease states.

The pregnant antithrombin III deficient patient: Management without antithrombin III concentrate
Thrombosis Research, 1992Pregnant patients with antithrombin III (AT III) deficiency have an unacceptably high risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Antithrombotic therapy is therefore recommended. The reported clinical experience of such prophylaxis is limited. Some authors have recommended the use of AT III concentrate in addition to heparin in the management of these ...

Antithrombin III replacement in animal models of acquired antithrombin III deficiency
Blood Coagulation & Fibrinolysis, 1994Plasma antithrombin III (AT III) levels decrease early during Gram-negative septicaemia, and even a moderate decrease in this major inhibitor of the coagulation system is associated with serious disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). This study reports the efficacy of high dose (at least 250 units/kg) AT III replacement in three animal models of
