Molecular Iodine‐Mediated Functionalization of α‐Carbonyl Sulfoxonium Ylides with Thiocyanates, Xanthates, and Dithiocarbamates

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
A method for synthesizing α‐xanthates, α‐thiocyanates, and α‐dithiocarbamates has been developed. By employing molecular iodine and the potassium salts of xanthates, thiocyanate, and dithiocarbamates, a wide range of products is obtained, with yields reaching up to 83%. Sulfoxonium ylides derived from esters, ketones, amides, heterocycles, and steroids

Synthesis of Rare‐Bacterial Sugar Analogs: Thomosamine and Fluorinated Thomosamine

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
We present the synthesis of protected thomosamine (4‐amino‐4,6‐dideoxy‐d‐galactopyranose), 3‐deoxy‐3‐fluoro‐thomosamine, and 2,3‐dideoxy‐2,3‐difluoro‐thomosamine from levoglucosan (1,6‐anhydro‐β‐d‐glucopyranose). Bacterial carbohydrates that include unusual deoxy amino sugars represent interesting targets in drug discovery.

Multicomponent Synthesis of Fluorine‐Containing Bioactive Compounds and Drugs

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Multicomponent reactions are robust synthetic tools to assamble complex polyheterocycles and other interesting molecular architectures with potential application in medicinal chemistry, including their fluorine‐containing analogues. Fluorine atoms placed strategically into bioactive molecules often enhance essential pharmacokinetic parameters like ...
