Waveguide Photoactuators: Materials, Fabrication, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Waveguide photoactuators convert guided light into mechanical motion. Their tethered‐flexible design enables minimally invasive surgery and confined‐space robotics. This review aims to guide materials selection, device design, and system integration, accelerating the transition of waveguide photoactuators from laboratory prototypes to versatile ...

Ants! A Bug\u27s Life [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
On a hot fall afternoon Chad Tillberg and six students grab nets, notebooks, small containers and vials, and tramp up a steep hill in the Coast Range. Loung Ly \u2711 pounds a round cylinder into the ground every 50 meters along the trail. Carson Moscoso

Fabrication of Superinsulating Poly(Urethane‐Isocyanurate) Aerogels Derived from Upcycled Polycarbonate

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Bisphenol‐A polycarbonate is upcycled via a simple one‐pot reaction into an aromatic Mannich polyol, which serves as a precursor for fabricating poly(urethane‐isocyanurate) (PUR‐PIR) aerogels. PUR‐PIR aerogels, prepared with different isocyanate indices, exhibit high porosities, high specific surface areas, ultralow thermal conductivity, and excellent ...

Taxonomic and Functional Ant Diversity Along tropical, Subtropical, and Subalpine Elevational Transects in Southwest China

open access: yesInsects, 2019
Although elevational gradients of biodiversity have long been the topic of scientific research, information on patterns of, and processes that shape insect community structure across elevation is still lacking.

Ant Gardens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Ant gardens are original associations involving a few species of arboricolous ants (i.e., nesting and dwelling on trees) with epiphytic plants (i.e., growing onto other plants), in which an ant society nests into the root system of a cluster of epiphytes.

Collective traffic-like movement of ants on a trail: dynamical phases and phase transitions

open access: yes, 2004
The traffic-like collective movement of ants on a trail can be described by a stochastic cellular automaton model. We have earlier investigated its unusual flow-density relation by using various mean field approximations and computer simulations. In this

XBP1s Mediates Cross‐resistance to Combination Treatment of CDK4/6 Inhibitors plus Endocrine Therapy in Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Elevated spliced form of X‐box–binding protein 1 (XBP1) correlates with unfavorable responses to endocrine therapy plus CDK4/6 inhibitors in HR+/HER2− advanced breast cancer. XBP1s facilitates cell proliferation and G1/S transition by transcriptionally activating SND1, thereby activating the E2F1 pathway.

How to Navigate in Different Environments and Situations: Lessons From Ants

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2018
Ants are a globally distributed insect family whose members have adapted to live in a wide range of different environments and ecological niches. Foraging ants everywhere face the recurring challenge of navigating to find food and to bring it back to the
