Biophysical processes of morphogenesis in lizard lungs

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The lungs of squamate reptiles (lizards and snakes) are highly diverse, exhibiting single chambers, multiple chambers, transitional forms with two to three chambers, along with a suite of other anatomical features, including finger‐like epithelial projections into the body cavity known as diverticulae.

Influence of habitat structure on Pristimantis species (Anura: Craugastoridae) in a bamboo-dominated forest fragment in southwestern Amazonia

open access: yesPhyllomedusa: Journal of Herpetology, 2015
Structural and determinate factors for the composition of assemblages of species are diverse. Two theories attempt to explain the pattern of species composition in assemblies using different approaches—i.e., Niche Theory and Neutral Theory.

Behavioural defences of anurans: an overview

open access: yes, 2011
Among vertebrates, defensive behaviours have been reviewed for fishes, salamanders, reptiles, birds, and mammals, but not yet for anuran amphibians. Although several defensive strategies have been reported for anurans, with a few exceptions these reports

Mosaic activation of the zebrafish hsp70l heat shock promoter: Implications for interpreting transgenes

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The promoters and enhancers of heat shock genes, such as the 1.5‐kb promoter of the zebrafish hsp70l gene, are valuable tools for temporal activation of transgenes. It has been widely purported that heat shock treatments result in ubiquitous expression of hsp70l‐driven transgenes.

Role of SoxE transcription factors in development and disease

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Sox8, Sox9, and Sox10 arose by multiple rounds of genome duplications from a single SoxE gene in ancestral vertebrates. In this review, we will briefly discuss the molecular structure and function of SoxE transcription factors and their evolutionary origin. We will then discuss their expression, function, and developmental disorders.

Zebrafish inversin mutants develop scoliosis in the absence of laterality defects

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Human mutations in INVERSIN are associated with nephronophthisis, variable penetrance of situs inversus and congenital heart disease. Inversin has been shown to localize to cilia and many of the patient phenotypes are attributed to disrupted cilia function.
