Association of anurans with pathogenic fungi
In a study of 450 Amazonian anurans, we isolated yeasts and yeast-like fungi from 54 animals (Bufo granulosus, B. marinus, Dendrophrynyscus sp., Hyla geographica, H. lanciformes, Ololygon rubra, Adenomera hylaedactyla, Eleutherodactylus fenestratus, Leptodactylus fuscus, L. ocellatus, L. pentadactylus). The internal organs of these animals did not show

Early Cretaceous neobatrachian frog (Anura) from Brazil sheds light on the origin of modern anurans
, 2020The fossil record of anurans in South America is scarse, especially for Mesozoic-aged beds. The aim of the present paper is to describe a new neobatrachian anuran coming from the Early Cretaceous (Aptian) Crato Formation from Brazil.

Neuroethology of sound localization in anurans
Journal of Comparative Physiology A, 2022Albert Feng pioneered the study of neuroethology of sound localization in anurans by combining behavioral experiments on phonotaxis with detailed investigations of neural processing of sound direction from the periphery to the central nervous system.

Dermal ossifications-- osteoderms- are more common in anurans than has been gen- erally acknowledged. In the hylid Phyllomedusa bicolor osteoderms are located in the dermis, cover the dorsal surface of the head and body, and are scattered on the lateral and ventral surfaces and the limbs.

Gustatory sensitivity of an anuran to cantharidin
Experientia, 1990Glossopharyngeal nerve stimulation of the bullfrog, Rana catesbeiana, revealed responsiveness to low levels of cantharidin (1.3 x 10(-6) M), providing a first demonstration of neural gustatory sensitivity of an animal to this defensive chemical from blister beetles (Meloidae).
