Both ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) and ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) play an important role in nitrification in terrestrial environments. Most often AOA outnumber AOB, but the relative contribution of AOA and AOB to nitrification rates remains ...

Models for nitrification process design: one or two AOB populations?
Models for engineering design of nitrifying systems use one ammonia oxidizer biomass (AOB) state variable. A simple extension using two AOB populations allows a more accurate prediction of nitrification systems at switching process environments. These two AOB subpopulations are characterized by two different sets of kinetic parameters.

Ammonia oxidation plays a significant role in the nitrogen cycle in marine sediments. Ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) and bacteria (AOB) are the key contributors to ammonia oxidation, and their relative contribution to this process is one of the most ...

Tooth size discrepancy in orthodontic patients with skeletal anterior open bite
Objective To find out if there is any relationship between tooth size discrepancy (TSD) and skeletal anterior open bite (AOB) and to assess the correlation between the amount of AOB and TSD.

Nitrification is believed to be one of the primary processes of N2O emission in the agroecological system, which is controlled by soil microbes and mainly regulated by soil pH, oxygen content and NH4 + availability.

Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...

Glioblastoma mortality is driven by cell invasion and therapeutic resistance. We report a cancer engineering approach to evaluate the behavior of heterogeneous cohorts of temozolomide resistant and responsive GBM cells. We show the effect of physiologically‐relevant metronomic dosing on ensemble drug response and invasion.

Ammonia transformation by potential consortium in the aquatic system
In the present research, the removal of high concentration of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate was determined by using the efficient ammonia-oxidizing bacterial isolates (AOB AMS 1, AOB AMS 2, AOB AMS 5 and AOB AMSS 1) along with the consortium of all four ...

Starting up or recovering partial nitritation is a major challenge for achieving or maintaining stable partial nitritation/anammox (PN/A) during mainstream wastewater treatment. This study presents a novel strategy for recovering the nitrite pathway by selectively reviving ammonium oxidizing bacteria (AOB) after thoroughly inhibiting AOB and nitrite ...
