Models for nitrification process design: one or two AOB populations?

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2010
Models for engineering design of nitrifying systems use one ammonia oxidizer biomass (AOB) state variable. A simple extension using two AOB populations allows a more accurate prediction of nitrification systems at switching process environments. These two AOB subpopulations are characterized by two different sets of kinetic parameters.

Transposition and Intermingling of Galphai2 and Galphao afferences into single vomeronasal glomeruli in the Madagascan lesser Tenrec Echinops telfairi. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
The vomeronasal system (VNS) mediates pheromonal communication in mammals. From the vomeronasal organ, two populations of sensory neurons, expressing either Galphai2 or Galphao proteins, send projections that end in glomeruli distributed either at the ...

The AOB subdivisions in rats respond differently to social stimulation

open access: yesProcedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2012
AbstractThe animal's ability to recognise and differentiate between familiar and unfamiliar conspecifics, plays a crucial role in their social behaviour. To study the neural mechanisms underlying individual recognition, the expression patterns of the Immediate Early Genes c-Fos, Egr.1, and Arc were investigated immunocytochemically in the brains of ...

Consumption of ammonia-nitrogen by aob in immobilized batch culture

open access: yesJournal of Fundamental and Applied Sciences, 2018
This study investigated the performance of bio-filters immobilized nitrifying bacteria, ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB). In particular, it wasto assess the consumption of ammonia-nitrogen (NH3-N) by the AOB. The experiment wasconducted in a one litre reactor. The reactor consisted of bio-filters with NH3-N as ...

AOB - Acoustic Oceanographic Buoy: concept and feasibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The AOB - Acoustic Oceanographic Buoy is the single node of a network of “smart” buoys for acoustic surveillance, Rapid Environmental Assessment (REA) and underwater communications. The AOB is a lightweight surface buoy with a vertical array of acoustic receivers and temperature sensors to be air dropped or hand deployed from a small boat. The received

AOB - an easily deployable, reconfigurable and multifunctional acoustic-oceanographic system

open access: yes, 2004
The concept of an easy to use and easy to deploy ocean acoustic tomographic OAT system is presented. The system is composed of a network of buoys and a data inversion online processor. This study concerns the individual node of that network—the acoustic-oceanographic buoy AOB —the data inversion technique and the testing of the system at sea.

Synaptic Inhibition in the Accessory Olfactory Bulb Regulates Pheromone Location Learning and Memory. [PDF]

open access: yesFASEB Bioadv
ABSTRACT Pheromone signaling is pivotal in driving the social and reproductive behaviors of rodents. Learning and memorizing the pheromone locations involve olfactory subsystems. To study the neural basis of this behavior, we trained female heterozygous knockouts of GluA2 (AMPAR subunit) and NR1 (NMDAR subunit), targeting GAD65 interneuron population ...

Variation, distribution, and diversity of canonical ammonia-oxidizing microorganisms and complete-nitrifying bacteria in highly contaminated ecological restoration regions in the Siding mine area

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2021
Canonical ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA), ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and complete-nitrifying bacteria (comammox) exist in a variety of ecosystems.

Cohort Profile: The All Our Babies pregnancy cohort (AOB) [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Epidemiology, 2017
Why was the cohort set up? All Our Babies (AOB) is a community-based, longitudinal pregnancy cohort developed to investigate the relationships between the prenatal and early life periods and outcomes for infants, children and mothers. The design of AOB follows a life course perspective, whereby the influence of early events on long-term health and ...

Seasonal dynamics of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria but not archaea influence soil nitrogen cycling in a semi-arid agricultural soil

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Nitrification, a key pathway of nitrogen (N) loss from agricultural soils, is performed by ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and archaea (AOA). We examined the seasonal dynamics (2 years) of ammonia oxidizer gene abundances across a gradient of soil ...
