Myofibroblasts are distinguished from activated skin fibroblasts by the expression of AOC3 and other associated markers [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2016
SignificanceMyofibroblasts surround the epithelial cells of the crypts that form the surface of the gut. They play an important role in controlling the normal epithelium and influence the development of colorectal and other epithelial cancers. The definition of myofibroblasts previously depended almost entirely on the expression of smooth muscle actin.

Absence of the Endothelial Oxidase AOC3 Leads to Abnormal Leukocyte Traffic In Vivo [PDF]

open access: yesImmunity, 2005
Leukocyte migration from the blood to tissues is a prerequisite for normal immune responses. We produced mice deficient in an endothelial cell-surface oxidase (amine oxidase, copper containing-3 [AOC3], also known as vascular adhesion protein-1 [VAP-1]) and found that this enzyme is needed for leukocyte extravasation in vivo.

Endothelial amine oxidase AOC3 transiently contributes to adaptive immune responses in the airways [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, 2014
Amine oxidase, copper containing 3 (AOC3, also known as vascular adhesion protein‐1 (VAP‐1)) is an endothelial adhesion molecule that contributes to the extravasation of neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes to sites of inflammation. However, the role of AOC3/VAP‐1 in allergic responses remains unknown.

Obesity of mice lacking VAP-1/SSAO by Aoc3 gene deletion is reproduced in mice expressing a mutated vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1) devoid of amine oxidase activity

Journal of Physiology and Biochemistry, 2020
The product of Aoc3 gene is known as vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1), a glycoprotein contributing to leukocyte extravasation and exhibiting semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase activity (SSAO). Regarding the immune functions of VAP-1/SSAO, it is known that mice bearing Aoc3 gene knock-out (AOC3KO) exhibit defects in leukocyte migration similar to ...

Tight regulation of allene oxide synthase (AOS) and allene oxide cyclase-3 (AOC3) promote Arabidopsis susceptibility to the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne javanica

European Journal of Plant Pathology, 2017
Biosynthesis of the oxylipin jasmonic acid (JA) in Arabidopsis thaliana is catalyzed by a single allene oxide synthase (AOS)-encoding gene and four genes encoding four functional allene oxide cyclase (AOC) polypeptides (AOC1, AOC2, AOC3, and AOC4). To elucidate the biological activities of the JA pathway in regulating the plant defense response to ...
