Thoracic Ultrasound–Related Management Change: Predictors and the Role of Operator Certification (Secondary Analysis of UltraMAN)

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, EarlyView.
Thoracic ultrasound frequently altered ICU management decisions. Changes were more likely in patients with cardiovascular disease or hypovolemia and occurred independently of operator certification. These findings support the routine use of TUS in critically ill patients, even when performed by less‐experienced but supervised operators.

Automatic calcium scoring in low-dose chest CT using deep neural networks with dilated convolutions

open access: yes, 2018
Heavy smokers undergoing screening with low-dose chest CT are affected by cardiovascular disease as much as by lung cancer. Low-dose chest CT scans acquired in screening enable quantification of atherosclerotic calcifications and thus enable ...

Fibulin-4 is essential for maintaining arterial wall integrity in conduit but not muscular arteries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations in fibulin-4 (FBLN4) lead to autosomal recessive cutis laxa type 1B (ARCL1B), a multisystem disorder characterized by significant cardiovascular abnormalities, including abnormal elastin assembly, arterial ...

Implementation and Performance of First‐Trimester Referral Ultrasound Scan Following the Introduction of National Guidelines

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, EarlyView.
The expert assessment of fetal anatomy before 14 weeks is feasible when adopting a standardized protocol and allows an early diagnosis in most cases at risk for fetal anomaly following first trimester screening ultrasound. ABSTRACT Background To report the implementation across Fetal Medicine units and the agreement between first and second trimester ...

Motion Mitigation Techniques for Abdominal and Cardiac MR Imaging

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT MRI of the heart and abdominal organs provides unparalleled soft tissue contrast and quantitative biomarkers, yet remains highly susceptible to physiological motion. Contractions of the myocardium, respiratory excursions, peristalsis, vascular pulsatility, and unpredictable bulk patient movement generate artifacts that impair image quality ...

Rosuvastatin Upregulates RCOR1 to Repress C10ORF10 Transcription and Alleviate Oxidative Stress and Plaque Formation in Atherosclerosis

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rosuvastatin (RVS) is an HMG‐CoA reductase inhibitor with lipid‐lowering properties. This study aims to investigate the role of RVS in plaque formation in atherosclerosis (AS) and its functional mechanism. ApoE−/− mice were fed a high‐fat diet to generate a mouse model of AS.

The Epidemiology of Aortic Aneurysms: Global and Regional Trends Between 1990 and 2021

open access: yesMedicine Advances, EarlyView.
This study presents the first comprehensive global analysis of the burden and inequality of aortic aneurysm (AA) using GBD 2021 data across 204 countries and territories. While the overall global burden of AA has declined over the past three decades, our findings reveal a concerning rise in AA‐related mortality and disability‐adjusted life years (DALYs)

Respiratory Motion‐Corrected Model‐Based 3D Water‐Fat MRA of the Thorax at 0.55 T

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose The goal of this study was to develop a 5‐min 3D MRA acquisition at 0.55 T with predictable scan time, 100% data efficiency, and robust water‐fat separation. Methods For full data efficiency, the proposed method combined self‐gating with retrospective motion correction while ensuring a predictable 5‐min scan time.
