Incorporating an Elevated Perfusion Index in the Right Hand Enhanced Screening Sensitivity for Critical Aortic Arch Obstruction in Newborn Infants

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Newborn infants with critical aortic arch obstruction are often undiagnosed at discharge, despite screening. This study investigated if adding the perfusion index improved early detection. Methods We retrospectively studied 38 newborn infants with critical aortic arch obstruction, who were routinely screened in 2014–2019 by 13 Swedish ...

Phase changes of the flow rate in the vertebral artery caused by debranching thoracic endovascular aortic repair: effects of flow path and local vessel stiffness on vertebral arterial pulsation [PDF]

open access: yes
Despite numerous studies on cerebral arterial blood flow, there has not yet been a comprehensive description of hemodynamics in patients undergoing debranching thoracic endovascular aortic repair (dTEVAR), a promising surgical option for aortic arch aneurysms.

Liver Transplantation for Alagille's Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Twenty-three children with Alagille's syndrome and end-stage liver disease underwent liver transplantation with cyclosporine and low-dose steroid immunosuppression. Two to 9 years (mean, 4.4 years) after surgery, 13 (57%) of the children were still alive,

A Novel Intronic Variant in the KH3 Domain of HNRNPK Leads to a Mild Form of Au‐Kline Syndrome

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
Integrated genomic and epigenomic analyses, associated with functional studies, confirm the pathogenicity of a novel HNRNPK variant in Au‐Kline syndrome (AKS). Our study underscores the value of DNA methylation signatures in variant interpretation, enhancing accurate diagnosis and clinical management of rare neurodevelopmental disorders.

Fibulin-4 is essential for maintaining arterial wall integrity in conduit but not muscular arteries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations in fibulin-4 (FBLN4) lead to autosomal recessive cutis laxa type 1B (ARCL1B), a multisystem disorder characterized by significant cardiovascular abnormalities, including abnormal elastin assembly, arterial ...

Cyclin‐dependent kinase 13 is indispensable for normal mouse heart development

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 246, Issue 4, Page 616-630, April 2025.
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common defect in live births. The role of cyclin‐dependent kinase (CDK13) in cardiogenesis and CHD was studied using a transgenic mouse model (Cdk13tm1b) carrying deletion of exons 3 and 4, causing loss of function.

Severe Periodontitis is Associated With Recurrent Cardiovascular Events—A 10‐Year Longitudinal Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
One thousand and two patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) were observed over 10 years. Data were collected from 792 study participants. Severe periodontitis proved to be an independent risk factor for new cardiovascular events. Tooth brushing more than once a day and performing interdental hygiene were associated with decreased risk.
