Aortic disease: thoracic endovascular aortic repair
Heart, 2015Following the first reported case of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) in 1987, there has been rapid technological development and widespread uptake of this approach for thoracic aortic disease. TEVAR has particular advantages for acute thoracic syndromes and there is continuing development of TEVAR for use in the elective situation.

Aortic diseases encompass a wide of range of pathologies, which can involve heart chambers and valves and can extend to vascular branches, besides affecting the aortic wall. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) has emerged as a multiparametric diagnostic tool which allows the assessment of complex disease within a single examination. Vessel course, patency,

Neurologic complications of aortic diseases and aortic surgery
2014Aortic disease processes have a wide range of clinical manifestations. The inflammatory disease process of Takayasu's arteritis differs dramatically from the visceral ischemia of aortic dissection. The catastrophic event of aortic rupture tends to overshadow life-altering events such as stroke and paraplegia. However, these neurologic manifestations of

Bicuspid Aortic Valve and Aortic Root Disease
Current Cardiology Reports, 2011Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common form of congenital heart disease, with frequent and premature occurrence of cardiac events, dominated by significant valvular dysfunction. BAV has a high prevalence of aortic wall abnormalities such as ascending aortic dilatation.

Aortic disease is common and consists of pathologies that are both congenital and acquired in later life. Although often considered as a simple conduit between the heart and the end organs, the aorta may be afflicted by a myriad of processes including constrictive, degenerative, vasculitic, inflammatory and haemorrhagic conditions.

Aortic diseases encountered in young women are mainly associated with syndromic diseases, which are often heritable, or bicuspid aortic valve. The most frequent syndromic disease is Marfan syndrome. In Marfan syndrome, the risk of aortic dissection is low during pregnancy when the maximum diameter of the ascending aorta is less than 45 mm.
