The relative contributions of aortic and carotid artery stiffness to CeVD and cognition

open access: yesCerebral Circulation - Cognition and Behavior
Introduction: The relative contributions of aortic and carotid artery stiffness on cognitive impairment and dementia remain unknown. We examined the associations of aortic and carotid artery stiffness with cerebrovascular disease markers, cognition, and ...

Senescent Cell Derived Artificial Vesicle‐Based Senolytic Sonovaccine Platform with Augmented Lymph Node Delivery and Antigen Cross‐Presentation Efficacy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A senolytic sonovaccine platform (SenoVac) is developed, in which senescent cell‐derived vesicles serve as broad senescent cell antigen reservior. The “2‐step” click chemistry strategy for effective lymph node delivery, and ultrasound‐triggered endosomal escape to boost cross‐presentation, ensures efficient senescent cell clearance and disease ...

Generation of Self‐Organizing Macrovascular Constructs by Bioprinting Human iPSC‐Derived Mesodermal Progenitor Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Vascularization remains a major obstacle in tissue engineering. Here, we introduce a bioprinting strategy to generate centimeter‐scale, self‐organizing “mother vessel” constructs from iPSC‐derived hiMPCs. By optimizing bioink composition, printing was accomplished in a single‐step approach. Within one week, hiMPCs differentiated into both CD31+

CARDIOVASCULAR AGING: INSIGHTS FROM MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING

open access: yesArtery Research, 2013
Aortic stiffness is now established as an independent marker of cardiovascular aging and cardiovascular risk. However, the specific role of the proximal aorta, specifically the ascending aorta, remains understudied.

Mechanisms and Subclinical Consequences of Aortic Stiffness [PDF]

open access: yesHypertension, 2017
The number of published articles on PubMed with arterial stiffness or aortic stiffness in the title during the past 20 years exceeds 4000 articles published, with more than one-half published in the past 5 years (see Figure). The studies published on the topic of arterial stiffness span the full translational continuum from basic mechanistic studies in

Engineering Morphological Anisotropy to Control the In Vivo Transport Dynamics, Clearance, and Biodistribution of Silica Nanocarriers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Morphological anisotropy directs the in vivo transport under physiological flow and clearance of silica nanocarriers. Increasing anisotropy reduces cellular uptake, suppresses hepatic and splenic sequestration, and prolongs systemic circulation by steering particles toward the central flow core.

Automated Extraction of Pulsatile Stiffness and Wall Asymmetry from Aortic M-Mode Ultrasound Images

open access: yesBioengineering
Conventional ultrasound-based assessment of aortic stiffness relies on two-point distension metrics using maximum and minimum vessel diameters within a cardiac cycle, which may not fully reflect time-resolved aortic wall dynamics.

Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm Growth in Bicuspid Aortic Valve Patients: Role of Aortic Stiffness and Pulsatile Hemodynamics

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2019
Background Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common congenital cardiac abnormality. A thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) is present in ≈50% of BAV patients, who also have an 8‐fold higher risk of aortic dissection than the general population.

Aortic stiffness in normal and hypertensive pregnancy

open access: yesBlood Pressure, 2009
The objective of this study was to examine whether aortic stiffness, as assessed by pulse wave analysis, could reliably discriminate between normal and hypertensive pregnancies. One hundred pregnant women were studied: five with severe pre-eclampsia, 27 with gestational hypertension, 14 with chronic hypertension and 54 with normal pregnancy.

Pre‐Curved Everting Robots With Embedded Steering Intelligence Fabricated by CO2 Laser Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Design and experimental demonstration of a laser welded growing robot for anatomically guided navigation. The robot follows an aortic arch phantom entering the branchiocephalic branch through steering by design. The figure shows the physical phantom setup, CAD defined weld geometry and full robot eversion.
