Association of Shift Work and Lifestyle With Aortic Aneurysm Incidence: A Large Prospective Cohort Study in the UK Biobank

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background Shift work is associated with various health problems, but its impact on aortic aneurysm (AA) is unclear. The role of lifestyle factors in this regard is also less clear.

TGFβ (transforming growth factor-β) blockade induces a human-like disease in a nondissecting mouse model of abdominal aortic aneurysm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Objective-Current experimental models of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) do not accurately reproduce the major features of human AAA. We hypothesized that blockade of TGF beta (transforming growth factor-beta) activity-a guardian of vascular integrity ...

Large‐Scale and Cost‐Effective Fabrication of Ultra‐Thin, Biodegradable Microelectrode Arrays and Pressure Sensors Using Laser Micromachining

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A mask‐free and cost‐effective UV‐pico‐second laser‐based microfabrication method is proposed to fabricate large‐area biodegradable microelectrode arrays and pressure sensors. These devices demonstrate low impedance, good conformability, excellent biocompatibility, and rapid degradation, providing a new route for next‐generation transient electronics ...

Accelerated biological aging, genetic susceptibility, and lifestyle in relation to abdominal aortic aneurysm: A prospective study

open access: yesThe Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the associations of biological age (BA) acceleration and genetic risk with the incidence of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), and to evaluate the extent to which BA acceleration mediates the impact of a healthy ...

A modified technique of orthotopic transplant of the kidney in rabbits [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
In this study kidneys were harvested from bred-for-research cats weighing 4 to 5 kg. General principles of donor bilateral nephrectomy en bloc with aorta, vena cava, renal vessels, and ureters were followed.

Additive Manufacturing of Patient‐Specific Intracranial Aneurysm Cell Culture Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Patient‐specific intracranial aneurysm models were fabricated using chocolate moulding, 3D printed water‐soluble cores, and direct resin 3D printing. Moulding PDMS around sacrificial cores made of chocolate or 3D printed water‐soluble resin yielded accurate, expandable, and endothelializable models that outperformed resin‐based approaches.

Source, triggers and clinical implications of hyperlactemia in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery using Custodiol cardioplegia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Postoperative blood hyperlactaemia is an indicator of organ anaerobic metabolism and is associated with morbidity after cardiac surgery. This prospective study aims to explore the source, triggers and clinical implications for hyperlactaemia in patients ...
