Cardiac surgery in a patient with retroperitoneal fibrosis and heart valvulopathy, both due to pergolide medication for Parkinson's disease

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2009
Retroperitoneal fibrosis is best described as a chronic inflammatory process which may be idiopathic, but can rarely be brought about by medications, such as pergolide, used for treating Parkinson's disease.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in a patient with severe aortic insufficiency of aortic valve homograft

open access: yesKardiologia Polska, 2013
We present the case of a 64-year-old female who was admitted to our centre with severe aortic insufficiency and advanced heart failure symptoms (NYHA class III–IV). Her medical history included: surgical homograft aortic valve replacement due to severe aortic insufficiency 14 years ago, chronic atrial fibrillation, and hypothyroidism.

Predicting acute decompensated heart failure using circadian markers from heart rate time series

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Circadian metrics—amplitude, mesor, and acrophase—derived from a wrist‐worn heart rate monitor can predict acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) up to 21 days before onset. In 65 post‐ADHF patients, an LSTM model achieved 74% sensitivity, and 73% specificity trained on 21‐day sequences. These findings support circadian rhythm analysis as a promising

Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease and Ascending Aortic Aneurysms: Gaps in Knowledge

open access: yesCardiology Research and Practice, 2012
The bicuspid aortic valve is the most common congenital cardiac anomaly in developed nations. The abnormal bicuspid morphology of the aortic valve results in valvular dysfunction and subsequent hemodynamic derangements. However, the clinical presentation

Comparative Characteristics of Surgical Treatment and Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty in Infants with Critical Aortic Stenosis

open access: yesУкраїнський журнал серцево-судинної хірургії, 2019
Critical aortic stenosis (AS) in infants is a complex pathology requiring emergency care. Treatment for such patients is a challenging problem. The methods of treatment include balloon valvuloplasty and open surgical valvuloplasty.

Four decades of heart–lung transplantation: Milestones and outcomes in advanced cardiorespiratory failure

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Heart–lung transplantation (HLTx) remains a life‐saving intervention for patients with end‐stage cardiopulmonary failure. We retrospectively analysed long‐term HLTx outcomes at our centre to assess survival trends and evaluate the impact of evolving immunosuppressive, surgical and perioperative strategies.

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance‐estimated pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, congestion markers, and effect of empagliflozin in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction and dysglycaemia (SUGAR‐DM‐HF)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims A cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) approach to non‐invasively estimate left ventricular (LV) filling pressure was recently developed and shown to correlate with invasively measured pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP). We examined the association between CMR‐estimated PCWP (CMR‐PCWP) and other imaging and biomarker measures of

Balloon valvuloplasty for aortic stenosis using umbilical vein access in a newborn: First experience in Turkey

open access: yesTürk Kardiyoloji Derneği Arşivi, 2016
Summary– Balloon valvuloplasty is an effective therapy for severe congenital aortic valve stenosis, with mild aortic insufficiency and minimal intermediate-term restenosis.

Atrial cardiomyopathy: From healthy atria to atrial failure. A clinical consensus statement of the Heart Failure Association of the ESC

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
The diagnosis of atrial cardiomyopathy (AtCM) requires electrical atrial dysfunction, with evidence of either mechanical atrial dysfunction, atrial enlargement, or excessive atrial fibrosis. The diagnostic cut‐points presented are for standard electrocardiogram and echocardiogram studies (see Figure 1 for further detail).
