Spontaneous Reduction in Mitral Valve Regurgitation in Three Dogs With Severe Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease: An Unusual Case Report

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 6, November 2026.
In dogs with MMVD, severe valvular degeneration with chordae tendineae rupture is generally associated with a poor prognosis despite medical management. These three cases demonstrate spontaneous reduction in mitral regurgitation accompanied by decreased coaptation gap, reduced regurgitant volume, reverse cardiac remodelling, discontinuation of ...

Necrotic adrenal myelolipoma in a geriatric dog

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, November 2026.
Abstract Adrenal myelolipomas are rare in dogs and usually incidental findings. They appear as hyperechoic, heterogeneous masses on ultrasound and fat‑dominant lesions on computed tomography (CT). An 11‑year‑old Spaniel cross presented with a 2‑day history of diarrhoea, vomiting and polyuria/polydipsia.

Risk Factors for Myocardial Injury During Cardio‐Pulmonary Bypass‐Assisted Heart Surgery: A Retrospective Single‐Center Study

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 70, Issue 10, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Myocardial injury is a significant contributor to 30‐day mortality after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. We aimed to investigate the association between mean arterial pressure, norepinephrine use during the aorta cross‐clamp period, and aorta cross‐clamp duration with myocardial injury during cardiopulmonary bypass ...

The Senokine Gas6 Promotes Aortic Valve Calcification Through CaMKII–DRP1–Mediated Terminal Scission of Mitochondrial‐Derived Vesicles

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 11, November 2026.
In age‐associated calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD), human valve tissues and calcifying human valvular interstitial cells (hVICs) exhibit senescence‐associated features, while calcifying hVICs hypersecrete mitochondrial‐derived vesicles (MDVs). Donut‐shaped mitochondria serve as physical platforms for MDV budding, whereas Gas6 promotes Ca2+–CaMKII ...

Multitarget Drug Design for Cardiovascular Disease: Bridging Chemistry and Medicine

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 19, 14 October 2026.
Many pathophysiological pathways associated with cardiovascular diseases involve multiple drug targets. This article reviews recent advances in the development of pharmacological compounds capable of simultaneously modulating multiple mechanisms. Multitarget drugs offer a promising therapeutic approach for complex cardiovascular disorders, including ...

The Lupus Damage Index Revision Program: Results From the Item Generation and Reduction Phases

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Volume 78, Issue 10, Page 1449-1466, October 2026.
Objective A data‐driven and expert/patient consensus‐based project to develop a revised Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC)/American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Damage Index (SDI) is under way supported by SLICC, ACR, and the Lupus Foundation of America. Our objective is to report the item generation and reduction phase results

Advances in 3D Bioprinting for Breast Cancer Modeling: Tumor Microenvironment, Metastasis, and Drug Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 39, 23 October 2026.
Three‐dimensional bioprinting transforms breast cancer modeling from simple constructs into spatially organized, multicellular, perfused, and patient‐derived platforms. This review shows how bioinks, cellular composition, architecture, and flow govern tumor behavior and drug response, while revealing why complexity alone is insufficient without ...

Comprehensive In Vitro Profiling Demonstrates Successful Immune Evasion of Bioengineered Immune‐Shielded Heart Valves

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 39, 23 October 2026.
Living donor heart valves offer superior durability for pediatric patients but trigger immune rejection. Lentiviral delivery of viral immune‐evasion genes US2 and Serpin b9 into donor valve cells and valve tissue suppresses HLA expression, reduces PBMC clustering and cytotoxic killing, and induces transcriptional immune‐tolerance programs, paving the ...

Eltrombopag Added to Standard Immunosuppressive Treatment as Front‐Line Therapy for Severe Aplastic Anemia: Long‐Term Outcomes of the Phase‐3 Randomized Superiority EBMT‐SAAWP RACE Study

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, Volume 101, Issue 10, Page 2520-2532, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The RACE study (NCT02009747) compared horse antithymocyte globulin (hATG) plus cyclosporine A (CsA) ± eltrombopag as initial immunosuppressive treatment (IST) for severe aplastic anemia. Here we report the final 2‐year analysis of this prospective randomized phase III study.
