Dendritic Spines and Development: Towards a Unifying Model of Spinogenesis—A Present Day Review of Cajal′s Histological Slides and Drawings

open access: yesNeural Plasticity, Volume 2010, Issue 1, 2010., 2010
Dendritic spines receive the majority of excitatory connections in the central nervous system, and, thus, they are key structures in the regulation of neural activity. Hence, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying their generation and plasticity, both during development and in adulthood, are a matter of fundamental and practical interest ...

Downlisting and recovery of species assessed by the IUCN

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 6, December 2025.
Abstract Despite the increasing number of species assessed for extinction risk by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) (163,040 species as of 2024), only about 1 in 1,000 have been downlisted due to genuine population improvement. Although this rare conservation achievement has been widely celebrated in several recent cases, some ...

A practical approach to meeting national obligations for sustainable trade under CITES

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 5, October 2024.
Abstract Reconciling conservation goals with sustainable resource use requires adaptive management strategies. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) regulates global trade for species listed on Appendix II, partly by requiring member countries (parties) to ensure exports do not damage wild ...

Scale of unregulated international trade in Australian reptiles and amphibians

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 5, October 2024.
Abstract Reptiles and amphibians are popular in the exotic pet trade, where Australian species are valued for their rarity and uniqueness. Despite a near‐complete ban on the export of Australian wildlife, smuggling and subsequent international trade frequently occur in an unregulated and unmonitored manner.

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, Volume 66, Issue 8, Page e120-e129, August 2024.

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, Volume 66, Issue 8, Page e102-e111, August 2024.

Preliminary insights of the genetic diversity and invasion pathways of Cedrela odorata in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2024.
Cedrela odorata is the second most invasive tree species in the Galapagos Islands. Using nine microsatellite markers, we found that the genetic diversity of C. odorata in Galapagos is lower (He = 0.55) than in mainland Ecuador (He = 0.81). Our preliminary findings suggest multiple introduction events and that the origin of C. odorata in Galapagos could

Cistoadenocarcinoma de ovario y apéndice

open access: yes, 2012
