A Study of Sintered Apatites

Hydroxyapatite, fluorapatite, and chlorapatite materials were synthesized and their sintering characteristics were studied. The compressive strength of the apatites was determined and is given as a function of density. Scanning electron micrographs of the typical material structure are given.

Adsorption of oleate on apatite

Adsorption experiments were conducted at two different solid loadings to investigate the mechanism of oleate adsorption on apatite. Adsorption density at pH 10 was found to be dependent on solids loading in an oleate concentration region where surface precipitation could occur.

With extensive analytical and clinical examinations it is shown that the proof of carbonate in apatite may allow no additional reference of an infection with urea-splitting bacteria. With certain analytical methods the presence of carbonate is demonstrable in each urinary calculus apatite phase.
