Structural studies of hydrated samples of amorphous calcium phosphate and phosphoprotein nanoclusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
There are abundant examples of nanoclusters and inorganic microcrystals in biology. Their study under physiologically relevant conditions remains challenging due to their heterogeneity, instability, and the requirements of sample preparation.

New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) in Alternative Methods: A Comparative Cytotoxicity Analysis of Nanostructured Hydroxyapatite in Adipose Stem Cells Spheroids

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Toxicological assessment is essential in NP approval for health and medical applications. Although 2D cell culture has been widely used, 3D models, especially spheroids, provide better predictive value for toxicological risk assessments since they replicate complex cellular interactions more accurately.

Titanium migration and bone response in loaded osseointegrated implants: ESEM‐EDX analysis in Macaca fascicularis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Titanium nanoparticle (TP) migration into peri‐implant bone may influence osseointegration. It remains unclear how loading protocols may affect TP distribution. This study aimed to detect TP in the bone around implants undergoing different loading protocols in Macaca fascicularis.

A review of volatiles in the Martian interior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Multiple observations from missions to Mars have revealed compelling evidence for a volatile-rich Martian crust. A leading theory contends that eruption of basaltic magmas was the ultimate mechanism of transfer of volatiles from the mantle toward the ...

Comparative efficacy of novel bioactive glass versus sodium fluoride toothpaste for dentin hypersensitivity

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This first‐in‐human clinical study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a bioglass incorporated in a toothpaste, in reducing dentin hypersensitivity (DH) compared to a sodium fluoride (NaF) toothpaste over a 2‐week period. Methods A double‐blind, randomized, parallel‐arm, proof‐of‐concept clinical trial was conducted with 46

Comparison of Enamel, Dentin, and the Dentin–Enamel Junction in Horse, Dog, Wild Boar, and Macaque Using Confocal Raman Microscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Confocal Raman microscopy was used to map the dentin–enamel junction (DEJ) across four mammalian species. Chemical maps highlighted variations in mineral (phosphate/carbonate) and organic (amide/CH) phase. These results provide a comparative Raman framework to link tooth microchemistry with species‐specific structure and function.

Current Trends and Future Prospects of Integrating Electrospinning With 3D Printing Techniques for Mimicking Bone Extracellular Matrix Scaffolds

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, Volume 63, Issue 6, Page 1481-1504, 15 March 2025.
ABSTRACT This article presents a review of the recent findings on the combination of electrospun nanofibers and three‐dimensional (3D)‐printed structures for extracellular matrix (ECM) scaffolds for bone tissue engineering. We explore the synergy between electrospinning (ES), which produces highly porous, fibrous structures from materials like collagen

Pure Chitosan Microfluidic Spinning Affords Modular Core‐Sheath Fibers and Hand‐Crafted Scaffolds with Enhanced Fibroblast Compatibility

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Microfluidic Wet Spinning affords highly resilient and biocompatible microfibers of pure chitosan without the use of any crosslinker. We produced microfibers both sheath and core of made of chitosan and another version with a chitosan sheath and chitin nanocrystals in the core.

Fluoride Ion Uptake by Synthetic Apatites

open access: yesAdsorption Science & Technology, 2009
Fluoride uptake by synthetic apatites from aqueous solutions was studied as a function of fluoride ion concentration. The phosphate minerals synthesized and considered included different varieties of phosphate minerals of the apatite group such as ...

Apatite Classifier

open access: yes, 2022
After comparing four commonly employed machine learning algorithms, we chose a scalable end-to-end tree boosting system called XGBoost as the optimal algorithm to tune and yield the final classifiers. It provides a rapid and highly accurate approach to classifying high-dimensional data, such as the variation in apatite trace elements in different types
