Abstract Paediatric patients with complex or acute conditions may require a central venous access device, however, almost one‐third of these devices have associated complications (e.g. infections). Implementation of evidence‐based practices regarding central venous access devices can reduce and potentially prevent complications.

Cellular cholesterol efflux and cholesterol loading capacity of serum: effects of LDL-apheresis
High LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) characterizes familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and familial combined hyperlipidemia (FCH). LDL-apheresis, used in these patients to reduce LDL-C levels, has been shown to also affect HDL levels and composition.

In severe forms of monoclonal gammapathy associated with scleromyxoedema with dermatoneuro syndrome and/or cardiac involvement, deep and durable responses allowing IVIG withdrawal could be achieved using anti‐plasma cell therapy, including Imids, anti‐CD38 or proteasome inhibitors. Abstract Background Scleromyxedema (SM) is a rare skin disorder related

Lipoprotein-apheresis (apheresis) removes LDL-cholesterol in patients with severe dyslipidemia. However, reduction is transient, indicating that the long-term cardiovascular benefits of apheresis may not solely be due to LDL removal. Microparticles (MPs)

Continuing education and standardization are of utmost importance in apheresis science as every field in medicine. Especially, the last 5 years witnessed remarkable progress in apheresis science in Turkey, both in terms of increased numbers of therapeutic apheresis centers, therapeutic apheresis procedures performed per year, and also in terms of ...

Abstract Background Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have procoagulative properties. As EVs are known to accumulate in stored blood products, we compared the EV content and coagulation capacity of leukoreduced cold‐stored whole blood (CSWB) with current prehospital and in‐hospital component therapies to understand the role of EVs in the haemostatic ...

Abstract Objectives Trauma‐induced coagulopathy (TIC) can be fatal but preventable if recognised early. With emerging uses of rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) to guide transfusions in trauma, patient outcomes with TIC‐defined by initial ROTEM and conventional coagulation tests (CCTs) during massive haemorrhage protocol (MHP) activations were ...

Abstract Background As low titer group O whole blood (LTOWB) increases in popularity, blood centers are finding innovative ways of maintaining the supply. One potential way is collecting LTOWB from parous female donors without testing for HLA antibodies.

Abstract Background The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service in Wales provides prehospital critical care, including the transfusion of red blood cells and plasma. However, the logistical challenges of storing platelet concentrates (PCs) at 22°C with constant agitation limit their prehospital use.
