Effectiveness of aphid parasitoids (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae) on winter wheat in two agricultural systems

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 1999
From the obtained results we can note that the parasitoids in our experiments in 1 997 and 1998 had considerable influence on decline of aphids population density, at which the percent of parasitization in milk maturity stage of wheat was from 2.7 to 35%.

Flight activity of aphids as potential vectors of viral infection of alfalfa in Serbia [PDF]

open access: yesPesticidi i Fitomedicina, 2017
Flight activity of aphids as potential vectors of viral infection of alfalfa plants were monitored in Serbia for the first time in Europe. Research was conducted at the location Progar (Srem) for two years using six yellow water traps.

Testing optimal defense theory: Root resistance selection in chicory (Cichorium intybus) reduces foliar defense and alters aphid performance and feeding behavior

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Root‐focused resistance in chicory reduces defenses in leaves, impairing root aphids but enhancing foliar aphid performance. Selecting root resistance can create unintended trade‐offs across plant organs. Abstract BACKGROUND Plants are constantly exposed to a wide range of herbivores at both aboveground (AG) and belowground (BG) levels, involving ...

DIVERSITY OF APHIDIDAE OF UTTARAKHAND

open access: yes, 2023
Agricultural crops face numerous pest-problems, particularly due to aphids, scale-insects, mealybugs, white-flies, mites, etc. Aphids (Homoptera: Aphididae) are one of the important pests of crops, and are highly injurious for cultivated and non-cultivated crops. We reported eighteen aphid species belong to twelve genera in Kumaun region.

cis -Jasmone treatment induces resistance in wheat plants against the grain aphid, Sitobion avenae (Fabricius) (Homoptera: Aphididae)

open access: yes, 2003
cis-Jasmone is a plant volatile known to have roles as an insect semiochemical and in inducing plant defence. It was evaluated in laboratory and field trials for control of cereal aphids. In an olfactometer bioassay cis-jasmone was repellent to alatae of

Evaluating astigmatid mites as supplemental food for Macrolophus pygmaeus: contrasting responses between commercial and wild populations

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Astigmatid mites provide low‐cost supplemental food for Macrolophus pygmaeus, supporting survival and development, with population‐specific responses and Acarus siro and Carpoglyphus lactis as the most promising alternatives. Abstract BACKGROUND Early establishment of Macrolophus pygmaeus in crops depends on the availability of supplemental food ...

African Aphididae

open access: yesBulletin of Entomological Research, 1914
Our knowledge of the Aphididae of Africa is as yet very limited, this important group of insects having been but little studied, except in Europe and North America. At present only thirty-five species are recorded for the whole African continent, about the number one can collect in a single afternoon in one's own garden in England.

Effect of temperature on fecundity and development of the Giant Willow Aphid, Tuberolachnus salignus (Sternorrhyncha: Aphididae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2001
This study investigates the thermal requirements, nymphal development rates and the fecundity of both alate and apterous adults of the giant willow aphid, Tuberolachnus salignus (Gmelin) at several temperatures.

Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphidoidea) associated with native trees in Malta (Central Mediterranean) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In the present study 25 aphid species which are known to be associated with trees in the Maltese Islands are recorded. Of these, 18 species represent new records; these include Aphis craccivora, Brachyunguis tamaricis, Cavariella aegopodii ...

New structure in cell puncture activities by aphid stylets: a dual-mode EPG study

open access: yes, 2010
Intracellular punctures by aphid stylets appear as potential drop (pd) waveforms in DC electrical penetration graph (EPG) recordings. We used a dual-EPG device that recorded in one channel the ‘full EPG’ with R-plus emf-components (i.e., the usual DC EPG)
