Genetics of wild and mass-reared populations of a generalist aphid parasitoid and improvement of biological control. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Due to their ability to parasitize various insect species, generalist parasitoids are widely used as biological control agents. They can be mass-reared and released in agroecosystems to control several pest species in various crops.

Placenta-like structure of the aphid endoparasitic wasp Aphidius ervi: a strategy of optimal resources acquisition. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Aphidius ervi (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is an entomophagous parasitoid known to be an effective parasitoid of several aphid species of economic importance. A reduction of its production cost during mass rearing for inundative release is needed to improve

Chromosomes of Aphidius ervi Haliday, 1834 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). [PDF]

open access: yesBeiträge zur Entomologie = Contributions to Entomology, 2003

Feeding specialization shapes the bottom‐up effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi across a plant–aphid–parasitoid system

open access: yesPlants, People, Planet
Societal Impact Statement Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) impact the relationships between plants, aphids (insects that feed on plant phloem), and their natural enemies (insects that prey on or parasitize aphids).

Effect of parasitic entomophages in controlling plant lice pests in vegetable crops and their numbers [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2023
The impact of pests and diseases on agricultural crops has been amplified due to global environmental changes, resulting in an estimated adverse effect of 1.4 trillion dollars, which is approximately 5% of the world's gross domestic product. Research was

A Parasitoid of Aphids Manipulates Host Mummification Site, With Effects on Survival but Not Hyperparasitism. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Parasitoid wasps can manipulate host behavior to enhance their own survival. Here we find that a parasitoid of aphids, Aphelinus chaonia, induces aphids to move to the leaf axil or leave the plant prior to pupation. This seems to have no effect on hyperparasitism, but mummy location may nevertheless impact parasitoid survival.

Biocontrol in practice in Canadian floricultural greenhouses

open access: yesOrnamental Horticulture, 2021
The environment inside Canadian prairie greenhouses differs from greenhouses built in other northern latitude locations in terms of lighting, temperature, humidity, and photoperiod.

Defensive Symbiont Genotype Distributions Are Linked to Parasitoid Attack Networks. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Lett
Facultative symbionts are widespread in arthropods and can provide important services such as protection from natural enemies. Yet what shapes defensive symbiont associations in nature remains unclear. We show that the symbiont Hamiltonella defensa's genotype distribution strongly aligns with sharing the same parasitoids, rather than host plants ...

Additional data on Aphidiinae (Hymenoptera, Braconidae) fauna of Kyrgyzstan, with description of a new species [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Hymenoptera Research, 2021
Here we present additional data on the Aphidiinae fauna of Kyrgyzstan. We identified 18 Aphidiinae species. One species new to science (Trioxys depressus sp. nov.) is described, while 11 species are reported for the first time: Aphidius avenae Haliday, A.

Primary parasitoid and hyperparasitoid guilds (hymenoptera) of grain aphid (Sitobion avenae F.) in northern Poland [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2014
The aim of this study was to determine and compare the guilds of parasitic Hymenoptera associated with the grain aphid on rye and winter wheat. Of the seven species of primary parasitoids (Braconidae: Aphidiinae, Aphelinidae), parasitizing ...
