Trans-generational effects of mild heat stress on the life history traits of an aphid parasitoid. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Temperature changes are common in nature and insects are particularly exposed and sensitive to such variations which can be potential stresses, ultimately affecting life history traits and overall fitness.

What is the potential for artificial selection of insect biological control traits? A systematic review of their genetic variation, heritability, and evolvability

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 173, Issue 6, Page 463-497, June 2025.
Growing interest in optimizing biocontrol traits, particularly due to Nagoya Protocol constraints, necessitates understanding their heritability and genetic variation. This systematic review of 5209 studies on arthropod biocontrol agents yielded 94 relevant articles, with 42 providing heritability values.

Cereal aphids (Hemiptera: Aphidoidea) in Serbia: Seasonal dynamics and natural enemies

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2008
During 1989-2006 the number of live aphid, mummies, aphid specialist predators and their parasitoids in cereal fields in Serbia were recorded. S. avenae and M. dirhodum were the most common, both on wheat and rye crops.

Cultivar-specific plant odour preferences of a generalist aphid parasitoid Aphidius colemani and a possible mechanism for maternal priming of resistance to toxic plant chemistry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Aphidius colemani Viereck, emerging from Myzus persicae (Sulzer) mummies on the Brussels sprout cultivar ‘Bedford Winter Harvest’ (BWH), responds positively in the olfactometer to the odour of that cultivar in comparison with air. Responses to the odours

Melanaphis sacchari/sorghi complex: current status, challenges and integrated strategies for managing the invasive sap‐feeding insect pest of sorghum

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 5, Page 2427-2441, May 2025.
We have assembled a group of scientists that work on different aspects of SCA and hereby submit a comprehensive review of the species and its management, with ideas for future research avenues. We believe this review will be of interest to scientists studying plant–insect interactions, and extension entomologists, among others, who work with the ...

Responses to aphid sex pheromones by the pea aphid parasitoids Aphidius ervi and Aphidius eadyi

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 1999
Abstract Aphidius ervi and Aphidius eadyi, two parasitoids of the pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum, were attracted to components of the aphid sex pheromone in laboratory bioassays. Pre‐test experience with host aphids in the presence of aphid sex pheromone did not affect the response of A.

Interactions between host plant quality and non‐consumptive predator effects on oviposition and larval behaviour of Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae)

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 27, Issue 2, Page 148-159, May 2025.
Abstract The presence of predators can induce non‐consumptive effects on prey that result in subsequent changes to prey behaviour and defence. We investigate the interaction between top‐down non‐consumptive effects of various stages of the predator Coccinella septempunctata L.(Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) (larvae and adult) and bottom‐up effects of host ...

Chemical ecology and olfactory behaviour of an aphid parasitoid and a lacewing predator

open access: yes, 2008
Female parasitoid (Aphidius colemani) olfactory preference was consistently biased in olfactometer experiments towards the Brassica cultivar on which it was reared when offered other Brassica cultivars as alternatives using either whole plants or ...
