Effect of silicate-based films on the corrosion behavior of the API 5L X80 pipeline steel
Corrosion Science, 2018Abstract The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of silicate-based films on the corrosion resistance of the API 5L X80 steel in carbonate-bicarbonate solution at room temperature. The films were electrochemically obtained by anodic and cathodic treatments and by immersion in 1.0 M sodium metasilicate solution.

Experimental Characterization of Hydrogen Embrittlement in API 5L X60 and API 5L X80 Steels
Key Engineering Materials, 2011The present work aims to study the hydrogen embrittlement process in API 5L X60 and API 5L X80 steels. The tests were performed using two kinds of hydrogen sources to work with two conditions of hydrogen damage: environmental hydrogen embrittlement and internal hydrogen embrittlement.

Cooling rate effects in the welding of API 5L-X80 steel
Welding International, 2016AbstractOne of the main reasons for the development of API 5L-X80 steel was its use in polar regions, where high toughness at low temperatures is required. This work studied the effect of the cooling rate in welding on the mechanical and metallurgical properties of this type of steel.

Abstract The objective of this work is to establish a performance classification based on the mass loss of API 5L X80 and 5DP S steel drill pipes caused by multiphase-flow-induced corrosion and cavitation. Multiphase-flow-loop tests were conducted using a mixture of 20% heavy oil (150 cP) + 80% deionized water, containing 15% of sodium chloride, at ...

Microstructural Evaluation of API 5L X80 Pipeline Steels Submitted to Different Cooling Rates
Materials Science Forum, 2010During the life cycle of an API steel there are occasions when it will be submitted to thermal cycle. For tubes produced by the UOE process, for the oil and gas industry, severe thermal cycles occur during the welding procedure and when the tube requires hot induction bending.

Mathematical model of critical implant stress testing in the weld metal of API 5L X80 steel
Materialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik, 2014In this paper the influence of heat input and preheat temperature on the critical implant stress was analyzed for the weld metal of API 5L X80. High strength steel marked as API 5L X80 is produced with a thermo – mechanical controlled process (TMCP), its chemical composition shows low carbon content due to which the steel has good weldability, but in ...
