Correlation of Instrumented Charpy Load-Displacement Curves with Crack Growth in API 5L Grade X80 Pipeline Steels

2015
The correlation of instrumented Charpy data analysis with fracture mechanisms in API 5L grade X80 pipeline steels has been investigated. Optical fracture analysis has shown solely the occurrence of ductile zones on a fracture surface: shear zone LC, “lamellar” zone LB with separations, and shear lips λ.

Effect of Iron Sulphide Film Formation on Hydrogen Embrittlement of an API 5L X80 Steel in H2S Solutions

CORROSION 2018, 2018
Abstract With the growing application of high strength steel, as API 5L X80, for pipelines in the oil industry, and related geothermal energy generation plants, comes the concern about the risks involving hydrogen diffusion and hence, embrittlement due to severe operational conditions and corrosive environment containing hydrogen ...

Hydrogen Embrittlement and Sulphide Film Formation on Base Metal and Weld Joint of an API 5L X80 Steel

CORROSION 2019, 2019
Abstract Most pipelines are exposed to severe operational conditions and sour environments that might lead to hydrogen entry in steels. The existence of weld joints can affect the service life of these tubes, acting as preferential areas for incidence of hydrogen embrittlement, due to residual stress and microstructure.

Characterization of Residual Stresses and Microstructural by Technique of Magnetic Barkhausen Noise of API 5L X80 Steel Heat Treatment

Materials Science Forum, 2016
Residual stresses typically are generated during the manufacturing process of mechanical components. The non-destructive techniques are quite sensitive to these residual stresses, and to microstructural changes resulting from thermal cycling. In this work, samples of API 5L X80 steel were exposed to several conditions of cooling, under water, air and ...

Structural, Adhesion and Electrochemical Characterization of Electroless Plated Ni-P-Carbon Black Composite Films on API 5L X80 Steel

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2019
In this work, composite Ni-P-carbon black coatings were obtained by electroless deposition on API 5L X80 substrates. The effect of carbon black on structural, adhesion and electrochemical properties of the plated samples was evaluated. Scanning electron microscopy analyses were carried out to examine the top surface and cross section of the films ...

On the ratcheting of defective low-alloy, high-strength steel pipes (API-5L X80) under cyclic bending: An experimental study

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2017
Abstract Metallic tubes experiences a progressive accumulation of ovalisation, or ratchet, under cyclic inelastic bending. The current paper deals with the ratcheting behaviour of defective small-scale API X80 carbon steel tubes subjected to cyclic bending.

Microstructures and textures comparison of conventional and high niobium API 5L X80 line pipe steel using EBSD

La Metallurgia Italiana, 2014
The development of microstructure and crystallographic texture of conventional and high Niobium API 5L X80line pipe steels has been studied using Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) technique. The selectiveuse of micro-alloying elements like niobium in alloy design, increases the recrystallization stop temperature, which facilitates rolling at ...

Influence of welding parameters on microstructure of the welded joint of HSLA API 5L X80 steel

2014
