Chapter 19: Vulnerability of coastal and estuarine habitats in the Great Barrier Reef to climate change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This chapter attempts to address the vulnerability of the CEM in the Great Barrier Reef region to global climate change. It does not consider individual habitats (eg reefs or seagrasses) but goes beyond the individual species and habitat assessments ...

A Biofabricated Human Acinus‐on‐a‐Chip Unveils Mechanotransductive Drivers of Ventilator‐Induced Lung Injury via Decoupling Volutrauma and Barotrauma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This bioinspired acinus‐on‐a‐chip recapitulates VILI pathology, revealing that volutrauma drives P53/NF‐κB pathways while barotrauma triggers mitochondrial‐Wnt dysregulation. A fibrotic transitional cell cluster was identified. Pharmacological interventions targeting these pathways significantly ameliorated injury, establishing a mechanobiological ...

Chapter 17: Vulnerability of coral reefs of the Great Barrier Reef to climate change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The Great Barrier Reef (GBR) contains the most extensive coral reef ecosystem on earth. It consists of 2900 coral reefs and 900 coral cays that cover approximately 20,000 km2 of the total 345,000 km2 area of the GBR Marine Park.

Evaluation of marginal adaptation and bond strength of apical root canal plugs using different bioceramic cements

open access: yesBMC Oral Health
Background Apexification in immature teeth represents a clinical challenge due to the difficulty of achieving an effective apical seal and sufficient mechanical resistance.

Switching Spike Plasticity Shapes ACE2 Engagement Across SARS‐CoV‐2 Variants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conformational plasticity governs SARS‐CoV‐2 spike function and ACE2 recognition. Using high‐speed AFM and single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we analyzed the ancestral spike and nine variants, revealing progressive rigidification from Delta, variable plasticity in Omicron sublineages, and JN.1 compaction.

Chapter 18: Vulnerability of pelagic systems of the Great Barrier Reef to climate change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This review focuses on pelagic environments. The oceanography of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) is dynamic and is the physical template to which organisms respond. Planktonic assemblages are the basis of pelagic food chains and they provide a rich supply

Bufei Yishen formula protects the airway epithelial barrier and ameliorates COPD by enhancing autophagy through the Sirt1/AMPK/Foxo3 signaling pathway

open access: yesChinese Medicine
Object Bufei Yishen formula (BYF), a traditional Chinese medicine alleviates COPD symptoms and suppresses airway epithelial inflammation. In this study, we determined whether BYF protects the airway epithelial barrier from destruction in COPD rats ...

Apexification of an Endodontically Failed Permanent Tooth with an Open Apex: A Case Report with Histologic Findings

open access: yesMedicina
The management of an endodontic failure in a traumatized tooth with an open apex presents a major dilemma. The arrest of root growth after traumatic injury is a substantial consequence of pulpal necrosis. Conventional endodontic treatment procedures will
