Measuring Personality in Wild Small Mammals: A Review of Methods and Proposal for a Standardised Approach

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 56, Issue 1, March 2026.
We provide a systematic review of methodologies used to study personality in small mammals. We propose adopting ‘Standardised Experimental Design’ and ‘Behavioural Measurements’ to effectively compare results across studies and foster progress in this field.

B chromosomes in Apodemus flavicollis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In genus Apodemus, the presence of B chromosome has been confirmed in six out of twenty-two species. One of them is yellow-necked field mouse Apodemus flavicollis. The presence of B chromosomes has been confirmed in almost all studied populations of A. flavicollis 46 in Serbia in a wide range of frequencies (0,07- 0,63).

Investigating the Potential Consequences of Woodland Creation for British Mammal Populations

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 56, Issue 1, March 2026.
We simulated the conversion of suitable areas in the UK to woodland, according to the current and target woodland creation rates, and assessed how this would affect habitat availability and potential population sizes of British mammals. We predicted that most assessed mammals would benefit or be unaffected by planned woodland creation, but some ...

B chromosome inheritance in Apodemus flavicollis

open access: yes, 2023
B chromosomes (Bs) are additional elements to the standard karyotype that are not required for normal growth and development. Bs are predominantly derived from chromosomes of the standard chromosome set. In some species, these supernumerary chromosomes are passed on to the next generation more frequently than would be expected under Mendel's law of ...
