Consumption of fructose and high fructose corn syrup increase postprandial triglycerides, LDL-cholesterol, and apolipoprotein-B in young men and women.

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2011
CONTEXT The American Heart Association Nutrition Committee recommends women and men consume no more than 100 and 150 kcal of added sugar per day, respectively, whereas the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010, suggests a maximal added sugar intake of ...

Cytotoxicity of lipid-free apolipoprotein B

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 2008
To investigate the effect of apolipoprotein B (apoB) on cell viability, we used lipid-free apoB as a model for denatured apoB. Lipid-free apoB had cytotoxicity to J774 macrophages, CHO cells and HepG2 cells, whereas apoB bound to low density lipoprotein (LDL) and lipid-free apolipoprotein A-I had no effect on cell viability.

Apolipoprotein E4, inhibitory network dysfunction, and Alzheimer's disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Apolipoprotein (apo) E4 is the major genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD), increasing risk and decreasing age of disease onset. Many studies have demonstrated the detrimental effects of apoE4 in varying cellular contexts.

UTX Responds to Nanotopography to Suppress Macrophage Inflammatory Response by Remodeling H3K27me3 Modification

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Compared with those on the pTi surface, macrophages on the TNTs surface present reduced myosin II contractility, which facilitates the nuclear translocation of the UTX. This reduction decreases the enrichment of the repressive H3K27me3 histone modification at the Abca1 gene locus, which promotes the transcription and protein expression of ABCA1 ...

Apolipoprotein E delivery by peritoneal implantation of encapsulated recombinant cells improves the hyperlipidaemic profile in apoE-deficient mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Plasma apolipoprotein E (apoE) is a 34-kDa polymorphic protein which has atheroprotective actions by clearing remnant lipoproteins and sequestering excess cellular cholesterol.

OXidative Stress PREDictor: A Supervised Learning Approach for Annotating Cellular Oxidative Stress States in Inflammatory Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
OxSpred, an eXtreme‐Gradient‐Boosting‐‐based supervised learning model, accurately annotates oxidative stress in innate immune cells at the single‐cell level, providing interpretable embeddings with significant biological relevance. This innovative tool revolutionizes the understanding of innate immune cell functions during inflammation and enhances ...

Short locked nucleic acid antisense oligonucleotides potently reduce apolipoprotein B mRNA and serum cholesterol in mice and non-human primates

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2010
The potency and specificity of locked nucleic acid (LNA) antisense oligonucleotides was investigated as a function of length and affinity. The oligonucleotides were designed to target apolipoprotein B (apoB) and were investigated both in vitro and in ...

Expression of apolipoprotein E by cultured vascular smooth muscle cells is controlled by growth state. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Rat vascular smooth muscle cells (SMC) in culture synthesize and secrete a approximately 38,000-Mr protein doublet or triplet that, as previously described (Majack and Bornstein. 1984. J. Cell Biol.
