Journal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, Volume 339, Issue 10, Page 1102-1115, December 1, 2023., 2023 Hypoxia suppressed heart rates at the end of incubation and altered respiratory quotients of juvenile snakes, but did not affect fitness‐related traits at hatching or at age 1 month. This suggests that embryonic physiological plasticity may facilitate responses to novel environments as species' ranges expand.
