Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

La diffusion de la toponymie scandinave dans la Normandie ducale

open access: yesTabularia, 2002
Behind scandinavian place names known by historians and linguists, some observations have to be formulated. Scandinavian appellatives can be seen in the ancient regional dialect (so, la londe, le londel, le thuit, le becquet, les hogues) and place names ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Structural models and methods of creating nicknames for US presidents

open access: yes, 2022
The article deals with structural models and ways of formation of the U.S. presidents’ nicknames. It has been found that the most common types are informal anthroponyms derived from appellatives and ‘mixed’ multicomponent units based on both appellatives

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

TOPONYMS AS REFLECTION OF THE PECULIARITIES OF CRAFT ACTIVITY (ON THE MATERIAL OF SMOLENSK-VITEBSK BORDER-ZONE)

open access: yesВестник Волгоградского государственного университета: Серия 2. Языкознание, 2014
The geographical names are important units, representing the connection with the cultural and historical traditions and national-specific context of a specific time period; due to the inherent cumulative functions they fix and retain the essential ...

“Liankialis” and “Litwiak”. An outline of anthroponymy based on tombstone inscription in Southern Vilnius Region and Lublin Province

open access: yesVilnius University Open Series, 2021
This article shows an outline of anthroponymy which I excerpted from the tombstone inscription from two parish cemeteries approximately 700 km apart from one another. The first one is located next to Porudomin (lit.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
