Cases of nonincidental appendectomy were identified through discharge diagnoses and operative logs, and 98.6% of the charts were retrieved for review.

Since early 1987, 62 laparoscopic appendectomies have been performed without any major operative or postoperative complications. Just over half of these patients required hospitalization overnight for observation. The rest went home with activity and dietary restriction for 48 to 72 hours.
